I haven't smoked in years, but I still carry my Zippo fairly regularly.

I love my Zippo! I have some pictures in my pocket dump thread along with the case i keep it in, the case is a worth while investment if you can pick one up, really protects it from scratches and to be honest i don't mind squirting a little fluid in it once a week to make sure i have a flame when i need it, only takes a second guy's...

That's what I want too, but I haven't found a reliable-looking place to buy one.

Carried a Zippos for over 25 years. Beats any lighter for longevity I know.
Had several fixed under warranty and they will always hold a special place in my heart for the memories created while with me... Gave up smoking over 5 years ago along with it my trusty zippo as an EDC item...

To be honest, if the lighter has had any use then three weeks isn't too bad going - If this isn't enough for you then perhaps one of the butane inserts may be the best course for you to give you a long lasting zippo lighter.

I ordered mine from tobacco-barn.com, if I remember correctly I had trouble ordering on their website and had to call them.

here is my collection so far

    (from left to right):
    - Jim Beam
    - Stars and stripes
    - Matte Orange
    - Matte Black
    - Black crackle
    - Brushed chrome
    - 4 assorted slims from the 60's and 70's

as you can see, the slims are in rough shape. I plan on sending all of the slims back to zippo to have the hinges repaired / replaced.

And you know what? I bet it woudn't hurt them one bit! I love my zippo's because they're so tough! Last year i even took this one step further and ordered myself a armored one and that feels even beefier and stronger than a normal zippo!

    By the way, here's a shot on my little fire making companion;

I really like everything about the zippo except one thing; how it runs out of fuel every other week even if you don't use it all that much.... so mine got a brilliant little butane insert (normal flame, not that torch stuff) but still with the nice trusty flint. Now its the best lighter in the world.

That's a nice robust insert. Is it as windproof as the standard wicked lighter?

I'd say wind-proofness is roughly the same yes.... but i don't know how strong winds get where you're from but over here when it's truly windy not a single lighter stays lit ;)

Those Tristar inserts seem to have disappeared from online stores years ago. The Thunderbird one is pretty good though - had no probs with mine over a few months.

Never had a thunderbird insert, but i did have a blazer jetflame insert..... never liked it one bit, doesn't look like a zippo anymore and the hot flame generally sucks for anything but incinerating stuff when you're really really drunk. This Tristar insert is brilliant really, all nice and beefy but still looks zippo-ish!

I filled a zippo 2 weeks ago and I wrapped in tinfoil. It's soaked with fluid still. Looks like a great method for preventing evaporation. I'll test it again in a few weeks.

I also wrapped a filled zippo in saran wrap, and put that in a zip lock for a month. You'd think it would have held the fluid.... I couldn't believe it 4 weeks later when I opened it. 100% bone dry!
