Just saw it on uncrate, and the first thing I did was run here to see if there was already a thread. It looks really sweet.

I saw this, but thought why not just carry a regular Zippo instead? I'd think a Zippo lighter would work just fine. FYI, you can remove the polyester stuffing in Zippos and replace it with cotton balls. That way, if your fluid has evaporated and you need to start a fire, you can pluck out some cotton and use it with the flint sparker to make a fire. Also, carry an extra flint or two in with the stuffing too, but most people do that already.

A couple of things concern me on this. Does Zippo sell replacement tinder sticks, and is there a risk of igniting the other sticks stored inside at the same time?
Andy Wayne's comments make sense too, but i'd still rather carry a mini-match magnesium firesteel for ignition and a pencil sharpener for tinder plus some PJ/cotton wool balls for adverse conditions.
Same overall bulk (ish) but makes more fires.

Dont have time for a detailed response but I reckon you coud make something similar
using a cheap lighter with the right mechanism ie flint and wheel attached on same side and make your own "waxed tinder stick" lol
    project ahoy

Just a fancy version of the many types of spark wheel on the market today, nothing new.
