I was at a local 'cheap used merch' store and found a nice looking Helly Hansen backpack.

Look like it was made from heavy canvas which gave it a retro feel, but it still had a modern design. Nice curved (ergonomic) straps. Not too deep. Nice lap top compartment with padding. Compression straps. Etc.

    Only $6

Upon inspection the pack looked to be in great shape... but the zippers seemed pretty obviously non-YKK.

30 or 40 years ago if you spied a piece of Helly Hansen gear you could just assume it would be top notch. Now apparently, not so much.

Kind of a depressing sign of the times.

There are other companies that make zippers in this country.

You do know that, right? ;)

Maybe, but ya'd think they stamp "Made in USA" on it. Felt chincy too.

Does it say on the pack where it was made? Maybe it was made overseas under license by HH?
