I have to change my vote to...
Sanrenmu H02. About $6 shipped
Another nod to the Kershaw Clash. I've had mine for over a year, and I have abused it pretty badly. One of the 3 screws from the clip is lost. It deploys fast, it carries small, it looks mean, and it has held up very well under heavy use in retail environments. Over the last year, it has not been uncommon for me to spend multiple hours each week using the knife on receiving days.
I suppose I should sharpen it one of these days, but I rarely break it out anymore. Most of the time, I carry a Leatherman Juice S2 (utility/tasking) and an Al Mar Payara (defensive folder). When I anticipate needing my beater blade, the Payara stays at home, and the Clash pulls double duty as my cardboard killer & defensive folder.
Tenacious hands down
I've been shopping around and can't find one for less than $ 50. Is that new or used pricing?
The fluctuate a bit, like most knives i track. Looks like I was off a bit this time. Seems like 53 (new on eBay) is about the lowest. Still a great deal!
I've gotta say the $10 Spyderco Persistence I bought on B/S/T today to go in my travel cache I'm building.
+1 to the Spyderco Tenacious.
Easy knife to flick out with one finger (I use the middle finger method) for ease of use and impressing your friends.
Nice slim and smooth blade for slicing right through whatever you're cutting.
Nice blade curve making sharpening a breeze.
Perfect EDC size .. not too big and not too small.
Here's how X4CTO opens his Spyderco knives:
BTW, if you don't know X4CTO, you need to familiarize yourself with him. He has some great EDC vids along with some great sharpening howtos. Careful, though, as most of his stuff is NSFW.
That reminds me, I need an Opinel...
Thanks man. Ended up grabbing a blue one NIB off there.
I knew I should have never wandered over to the "knives" side of this forum
Another for the Tenacious! After using mine quite hard, I see myself buying more in that line just to have.
I think my favorite budget folder(s) at the moment are the Ontario Rat 1 and Rat 2, depending on size and usage requirements. I like the Spyderco Tenacious, but it doesn't get me really excited. For budget multitools, I'm digging several Vic models, especially the Pioneer and Classic/Rambler/Manager/Signature lines. Budget fixed blades, I gotta go Mora.
first post, trying to decide between tenacious or opinel 8 or 9
Decide? Budgets can be tight, but for the price these knives are there isn't really a "good" reason not to get two of them.
(says a blade junkie). Choose the Tenacious and an Opi 6 for right around $45 add $3 to 5 if you go with an 8 or 9. Good choices with any of them.
well put, wasnt trying to decide which one to buy but which one i like best. currently carrying the tenacious and the 9. the 8s the first knife my dad gave me that i didnt loose. lol
Well if I had to pick one I'd say my $20 Kershaw Volt 2. I got a $12 Dajo Ascent a few days ago and I have been carrying it instead. So far I really like it and it may just bump the Volt. A good honorable mention is my $10 Sanrenmu 733. It by far gets the most use out of my non EDC knives. Only reason I never carry it is because it doesn't have a pocket clip.
I carry the Tenacious left side tip up, Opi 6 or either a SAK/Queen/Case slippie in rear pocket with a Kershaw OD-2 clipped at the top & blade flavor of the day right side ...I have a problem...not enough pockets!
