When was the last time you purchased an item of clothing and thought to yourself: "why have I been buying _________ for so long?" I can offer two examples: Duluth Trading Co underwear. I always purchased Hanes boxers in the past, because that is what I have always purchased. Upon trying Duluth Trading Company's "Buck Naked" boxers, I was immediately hooked. Sure, one pair costs more than a 6-pack of Hanes, but they are very comfortable and worth the cost in my opinion. As a matter of fact, I purchased my first 3 on 8/20/13, and currently have about 8 of them. None of them are showing any wear. Darn Tough socks. I actually first heard about them on this forum, and thought I would give them a try. Was shocked by their "lifetime warranty," and figured that the price was worth it. First, I should mention that I have always suffered from sweaty feet. Upon trying the socks for the fist time, my eyes were opened regarding the comfort and quality of the socks. My feet still sweat on occasion, but it is way better than it used to me. What eye opening items have you purchased that you would recommend to family and friends?
Modern merino wool garments. Been smitten with them. Very low odor retention. Very low itch factor. Beats the stuff that I wore decades ago. I am gradually replacing my synthetic stuff.
For me it was some army surplus wool socks. SO comfortable, doesn't smell at all, doesn't stay wet, and is not that hot
Decent running shoes, like Nike Air, Reebocks, or Asics. I used to buy whatever was cheapest at K-Mart or Walmart, then someone insisted I should buy decent running shoes by a name brand. So i did, and much of my pain, like shin splints, went away. I was thinking why the hell didn't I get decent running shoes before?
1. Polarized sunglasses. I realized, even with really good ones but normal lenses, if they are not polarized, it is not as clear as with polarized lenses. Vision with them in the sun or near water is like day and night. 2. This is going to be shocking but: Victoria Secret bras. Seriously. Like, really really seriously.
For me it’s merino wool, too. Mostly socks (I like Woolpower Active 200), but other stuff too. Currently I have said socks, a zip jacket, long johns and a t-shirt.
+1 on merino wool; I have a winter cap and a few pair of socks made of the stuff and it is light, comfortable and sheds moisture nicely. Keeps me warm too.
Another merino wool fan here. I have loads of the stuff: Icebreaker base layers, teeshirts and several mid-layers. I even bought a cream reproduction submariner's polo necked jumper made from merino; it was so soft and warm that I bought a navy blue one the next day. Smartwool socks and boxers are great too and I like DWR Swanndri New Zealand wool shirts used as outer layers instead of fleece/shell combinations. Kikaida is dead right about getting proper good quality running shoes. I switched to Brooks ASR Adrenaline and they're the last word in comfort. Expensive but you really do get what you pay for.
Merino wool socks and polarized sunglasses. I haven't worn cotton socks in years, what I didn't know did hurt me. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
dickies work socks, mechanix gloves, got my first pair dec. 2013 beat them up in 2014. never felt i could justify 20 USD on gloves but they are the most comfortable ones i have worn. also came up and found an under armour shirt for cold weather at the thrift store worked great for the cold.
