Hey guys, I wanted to see If anybody had any special items or kits they carry into the woods with them. It would be awesome to see your guys stuff, and maybe see if anything catches my eyes, and my wallet...
Since I go bushcrafting frequently I have a list. I call it my "belt rig" because it stays on even if I set my pack down. If I go from camp I am wearing it. I carry my normal EDC gear plus a leather belt with: -Large fixed blade knife with a sheath pouch containing (fishing kit, sharpener, Firesteel, lighter, and a Coghlan's 4 in 1 compass/whistle/magnifying glass/thermometer) -Cold Steel Rifleman's Tomahawk -U.S. Canteen with stainless steel nesting canteen cup and pouch -Large belt pouch (20 feet of 550, Compass, carabiner, bandanna, needle, thread, Large trash bag, emergency blanket, Head net, Slingshot band, duct tape, folding saw) -Small fixed blade knife If I feel like being extra frisky I'll take my haversa
I wasn't suggesting that. I mess up all the time, so I like to know I'm not alone. Chester, have you thought about maybe making a DIY alcohol stove? They are pretty much free. Or you can get a cheap clone of the Pocket Rocket and a small can aster for around $10.
Gerber Bear Grylls Scout knife (soon to be replaced with the Paraframe 2) in the pocket and Victorinox Camper in a belt sheath. If I have cargo pockets I usually have a map and compass in the right one. Casio watch on one wrist and paracord bracelet on the other.
I often leave the camera at home when going out & I don't have that many pics of my gear, but this should give some idea: And on overnighters: It's a Vango Force Ten Helium 200, in there are a Thermarest Neo Air All Season (large, I like some room to wiggle around), a Sea to Summit TK2 down sleeping bag, and my pack is the Deuter Aircontact 55+10:
In addition to my usual EDC items, when I venture into the woods, I normally carry these items on person: 1. A decent knife. Either my Buck 110 or a Brusletto Storbukken fixed blade brusletto by thesungame, on Flickr 2. My Primus Jet Torch lighter I normally carry the rest of my gear in my bag.
That is a gorgeous knife, most I've seen have a burly wood handle but yours looks absolutely stunning. Is the stock sheath any good?
What's the philosophy behind a full-blown multitool in the woods? I have never really encountered a situation where I needed more than a knife, a saw and a can opener.
It's my can opener, my pot holder, my cork-screw (I usually bring a bottle of ruby red on shorter trips), a screw driver to replace the saw blade or tighten the pivot screw on my Laplander, a back up saw, a file to repair large nicks on a blade, etc, etc. It's too heavy for some trips though, and I can make do with my Squirt PS4 if needed.
Same as my normal EDC, but I switch out my Spyderco Zulu for a ZT 0350 and carry a bag with a pack-axe, twine, duct-tape, water, and whatever food for the trip, and I stick some firesteel on my keychain.
My usual edc. As extra I take my modified victorinox trailmaster and my esee izula, a firesteel and a good pair of walking boots.
I don't know, perhaps I agree that it often isn't necessary though. But I do find it nice to have, so if I have room for some extra weight I like to have it with me.
