It has come to that time again where I start thinking about getting another blade for EDC. However, I have been carrying my Victorinox Pioneer X every day for two years now and I'm convinced nothing will be a better fit for my EDC than that. So rather than replacing my SAK, I think I'd like to get something to accompany it in my carry to remedy my biggest issue with the SAK-- lack of one-handed operation. I'm looking for something small and classy with high-quality steel, preferably locking and under $150. I was considering a Spyderco Dogtag, but they seem VERY small, which I'm not sure I'd want, and they no longer make the Squarehead in titanium.

Spyderco Native, ZT 0450... what’s the direction? A dog tag is no knife.

Dog tags are really small and wouldn’t stand up to much use.

I'm pretty sure the Dog Tag folder would stand up to more use than the hand trying to use it.

That looks like it could check every box I've ever had for a knife... Thanks for the suggestion!

If you like the SAK what about a Victorinox RescueTool? And what I love about it is that it's a Rescue Tool, which has a bottle opener and corkscrew... Which is about all the rescuing I ever want to need.

It has some great features, and the SAK quality:
    • One Hand Serrated Blade
      (Lockable)
    • Belt Cutter
    • Disc Saw
    • Window Breaker
    • Cap Lifter (Lockable)
    • Large Screwdriver
    • Wire Stripper
    • Corkscrew
    • Reamer
    • Sewing Eye
    • Keyring
Or there is the Swiss Army Soldier (Which I think is Wenger), but again OHO.

I don’t know, I’ve had 3 out of the first batch of 21 customs that Panchenko made several years prior to the Spyderco release (one missed the photo op, below).

    I wouldn’t carry one.

Funny thing: I can carry a 4” flipper and whatever here. But not a dog tag. The law says, no hidden blades, and that counts as one. Like a sword cane or such.

I don't carry mine either. My old fingers complain when I try to hold that thing, much less trying to use it. Like I said, the knife will stand up to more than the hand using it.

At $199, it’s a bit above your budget but the Spyderco Domino is a great knife. Lots of aftermarket mods for it which can be fun to do, as well. I carry mine quite a bit.

I've been carrying the Victorinox Hunter Pro (Orange) on belt lately (for a couple months), with Pioneer in pocket often.

The Hunter Pro is a big folder, but closed and in the pouch it doesn't seem that big, or not to me. It fits the bill of one-hand opening and it's the quality you would expect from Victorinox. The one I received is flawless.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I've been looking into them and I like what I see. To clarify what I was looking for a bit more-- I want something a bit heavier duty and with a more durable steel than the Pioneer but that's not so big I won't want to carry the SAK (i.e ~3" max). I love the utility of the scissors and the screwdrivers etc, I just want something that's one hand operable and fulfills me need for MOAR GEAR!!!

A mini grip seems an obvious choice to me!

I also love the ZT0900 and it flips insanely on my copy ,they are discontinued but still around and well worth hunting down.

The Delica is also a solid choice as an upgrade.

Spyderco PM3 if you got a 3“ issue.

The Kershaw OD2 is a good knife. Smaller than your SAK but opens superfast and easy with a flipper thingy that you just gently press. Flipper folds in and hides when open. So it looks very nice and civil. Liner lock. Pointy. Sharp. Beadblasted nonshiny blade ca 6cm. Ca 8 cm handle. Reversable clip. Tip up carry. Clip is very strong. Very lightweight ca. 40grams.

Small folders with normal thumbstuds are a pain to open one handed.

But it's discontinued. Bought mine from a collector for 20 bucks or so.

Highly recommended to look for one if you want a fun to use smaller blade that looks slick and has and has an interesting and functional opening system.
