Anyone find that the straps aren't wide enough and cut off your circulation under heavy loads? I'm deployed with mine and finding this to be true for me. Anyone have any fixes or mods for different straps? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I’m still fiddling with getting mine adjusted properly for beltless carry, but it feels fine for me with 15-20lbs. But I bet you’re carrying more than that. Hill People Gear makes an awesome shoulder strap. You’ll need to adapt the X-rays 2” webbing down to 1” to rig it up. For my shoulders, the HPG harness makes everything feel many pounds less. Make sure you have it fitted on you as a big lumbar bag with the weight on the belt. Also make sure the top delta straps on the belt are not pulled too tight, and also the shoulder straps- let it sit primarily on the belt. If you are wearing it high with no belt or over equipment belt, make sure to remove the stays which could mess with the carry. Another thing you can try is to move the bottom connection of the shoulder strap higher, either on the upper lumbar pad slot or using a repair buckle on the side molle. Helps change the pull of the bag on your back. The hpg harness is a good upgrade specially when you are not using the belt but make sure it's comfortable for you and has enough clearance over armor.
I have had one for a good number of years, once I got it adjusted and broken in it was very comfortable and was able to carry a lot of weight with relative ease. The main thing is to adjust the straps so the lumbar pad is sitting over your lumbar area and that the top ends of the shoulder strap pads end just past the back of your shoulders. You can also try bending the stays to get the bag to get the back of the bag to sit closer to your back. Failing that you may have straps that are too small for you (if I recall correctly there are several sizes available).
I bought a Xing a couple of years ago and hated the straps when weight was put in it. It remains unused today under my bed. Update ----------- A review of the hill people gear straps on kifaru stuff. http://www.itstactical.com/gearcom/packs/hill-people-gear-tarahumara/
