Personally, I wouldn't wear a G-Shock to a formal occasion. If it's too formal for a baseball cap it's probably too formal for a plastic watch. :bounce:

I like nice stuff (watches, knives, guns, etc), and formal occasions give me an excuse to pull out the stuff that's a little too nice for the typical rigors of EDC carry. Especially for formal occasions, I find that a pocketwatch carried in a vest is a very classy way to go.

I had a similar experience with the GW-M5600 composite bracelet. It went through a phase of being hard to find as well as ridiculously expensive. It wasn't cheaper for me to buy the whole watch, but not a long way off. So now I have the GW-M5600 in both normal and negative display :D

In my younger days, I wore my all-steel Seiko to my own wedding, and now I inwardly cringe when I see it in my wedding pictures. Even the nice G-Shocks people have posted are too sporty for formal wear.

I wouldn't wear my DW5600e-1V to a wedding, but I'll be the guy rocking the Marathon GSAR on the Great Seal bracelet in a tux! :skull:

    I'd love a JLC Reverso...

    Yes. I have a GW-A1000FC-1 and MTG-1000.
I paid too much for them.

Sure would. I wore a nice white G Shock to my prom, looked right at home with a black and white tuxedo. Same for a couple weddings I've been to.

    No.
If I'm dressed formally, I wear a pocket watch.

There was a similar thread about watches to be worn at the office/with a suit.
My answer is still the same, most people don't notice watches, and most of those who do are probably just looking because they like watches and want to see everyone's watch just to see it. If someone is going to judge you by the watch you re wearing then that is their issue not yours. ( my wife's grandfather is a very well respected member of our community and a multimillionaire, he wears a timex everywhere, formal functions included and nobody has ever said a word about it)

Usually sport a pocket watch when going formal.
