I've threaten my wife so many times that when I find the right "fanny pack" I'm buying it.

I have one I bought back in '91, to carry concealed on the bike. I believe it was made by Uncle Mikes. I used to carry with shoulder holster, but it could still be spotted sometimes when I was riding(sometimes a good thing). Had hidden area closed with velcro, with 2 velcro straps inside to setup for the gun you had. Carried a Ruger .357 with no problems. Still have it, but haven't worn in years, I tell wife I'm gonna pull it out, and bring them back in style, soon as this mullet grows in!

Matthew McConaughey at a Boston Red Sox game in 2014. (Some say he wears it 'ironically'.)
"I'm not afraid of the fanny pack," he explained.

Does the fanny pack get cool if you sling a huge one ?

They're starting to make something of a fashion resurgence. And I have to admit, particularly now that I have a smartphone and might need to carry other stuff, sometimes it's just easier to grab one and throw caution to the winds. Particularly if it takes a load out of my pockets.

The problem is that McConaughey could tie a dead Sea otter around his waist and it would be considered cool...

    Ditto.
Mine is quite low-profile, does't carry very much, and is more of an appendix pouch. I use mine when lounging in the backyard. I cannot tolerate the larger varieties that accommodate so many items that it's thickness gravitates between a colostomy bag and a Homer Simpson-esque "dunlap."

I wish I did. I hate having things in my pockets.

But, I tried a couple...the mountainsmith that nutnfancy used to wear and an eastpak RFID blocking one. They didn't work great.

I can't wear them at 12 o'clock because I carry aiwb. And off to the side, they curl around my body too much.

I might try one again at some point. Because I really hate having my phone in my pocket.

I would consider going with a tactical man purse. But at the same time, my on body edc works pretty well.

If you just have one or two things to carry, a belt pouch or Skinth would suffice. If you're carrying your gun, wallet, keys, flashlight, knife, multi-tool, field notes, FAK, fire kit, and phone in it, then a fanny pack or sling bag would have to do it.

We need a tactical fanny pouch with molle and a patch strip! And way to many straps and buckles!

Heh. To be fair, I usually end up slinging mine over a shoulder/cross body, like a mini satchel to avoid the curl factor.

I have yet to find a fanny pack that rides comfortably as intended.
