Just purchased a piece of very practical clothing; a loose wool hood. It can be attached to any jacket with buttons or be worn unattached, for instance as an extra insulation layer for the head with a jacket that have a thin hood.
Made of wool; 80% wool and 20% polyamide.

Had a chance to test it today riding my bicycle in freezing wind. Wore it with a hoodless jacket and a tactical cap on my head. Sits well on the head thanks to the cinch cords (there is one in the neck also). And snug enough around the neck to keep wind out without being too snug. Totally windproof, kept my ears warm and cozy.

Sure, I might have looked like a dork but I donĀ“t care. More important to dress wisely than looking fashionable.

I wore something similar through last winter's wicked cold nasty weather; a Buff thermal hoodie. It uses a combination of merino wool and Polartec Thermal Pro fleece. Very versatile. Warm but still quite breathable.
