My stepson likes taking a glow stick to bed with his as his night light.

Yesterday when I got up I happened to notice the number of used glow sticks in his room and had a thought.

I grabbed an old one, cut the end cap off and emptied and cleaned it. Then I used some GITD powder I had and mixed it with clear epoxy and filled the glow stick. Today after being in the sun a few hours we have this

The glow will easily last a few hours, charges in the sun and won't die lol

    Nice!
And, will save you a fortune, if those things are as expensive down there as they are here! ;)

That is an amazing idea! My daughter still sleeps with her lamp on but I've been meaning to try and phase her out of it. Something like this might be just the ticket.

They aren't bad bought in bulk through ebay, but for about $2 powder, $2 again in epoxy and one used glow stick tube, well worth the 15 minutes it took to make it lol

What about using some sort of "filler" down the center of the tube rather than filling the entire tube with glow powder. It is the outer powder that emits the glow after all; probably same some bucks especially if using the really good glow stuff.

You could use some sort of thin rod to take up the room in the middle of the glow stick to reduce the amount of powder needed

I didn't consider that yeah :) I did consider just coating the inside of the tube, but wasn't sure how that would affect "charging" it from the sunlight

So you mixed the powder in with the epoxy and then filled the stick? Did you glue the bottom back on? Or the epoxy hardens and will not come back out?

The epoxy sealed the end when it dried. I then just shaved it smooth so it didn't catch his hand :)

    Thanks mate :)

OK. I have had this idea for a long while. Do exactally what you did with the stick and glow dust but make sure its hollow. Mount to the end of a AA UV flashlight. One battery will recharge that GID tube ad infinitum. If you go on to become a millionaire because of my idea... Remember the little people.
