It's now been a day with the 702. This is the perfect EDC pen for me.

I ended up not using the plastic insert in the tip at all. The clicky from the 402 is far more satisfying. The fine red Fisher ink flows perfectly, so smoothly, it is a great writing experience.

I was interested in a fancier pen - the retrakt - before I succeeded at the 701+402=702 mod. For now, at least I am very satisfied with the 702.

I guess the earlier post about zebra not wanting to give up the extra $ of those of us having to get both 701 and 402 is spot on. Though zebra did respond to a tweet and said they would look into this further. If a 702 came this way out of the box, I'd certainly pay more for it (though the mod is fun, I felt accomplished by doing it).

    Very satisfying all around!

Not an expert, nor complainer- recently (no abuse) a pos dime store pen is about as good ... :(

    Which model do you have?

My cap-o-matic is now my favorite pen, been holding up well.

I love the Fisher Bullet because I barely realize I'm carrying it most of the time and it's always there when I need it. As a forgetful student who studies far from home, having a pen I can forget about until I need it is a godsend!

I've carried one since my brother, who retired after 30 years as a Correctional Officer in Montana (one prison for the entire state) showed me how he used his as a pain compliance tool. I've used it for the same reason working several security gigs having to remove less than cooperative drunks from locations. Then I use it to write the report:)

I just got one in the mail the other day and I love it! It's so small and compact, but then, when you take the lid off and then put it on 'on' the opposite side, it's a full sized pen. And besides, you never know when we might need to write in zero gravity.. I mean, come on... how many of us are going to take a trip to outer space anytime soon? We've got to be prepared for anything...ya know? :p:rolleyes:

If you like the compactness of the Space pen, I strongly recommend the Zebra F-301 compact. Great pocket pen, reasonably priced, and takes the Zebra standard refill (so you can refill with red, blue, or green).

I own two Fisher Space Pens. One is a "Trakker" that has a key ring in its cap. It hung on my tool ring inside my purse for many years and is still in great space. It writes on anything and in any sort of weather. Small and compact. I also own a purple Bullet space pen with a chrome clip. It has a permanent place in the Quiver of my pocket moleskine. For me, the clip has functioned great and the pen still looks like new even though I've owned it for around 5 years. I like keeping the bullet there because it is very small and fits into the quiver's diameter perfectly. I own many other pens, fountain pens, rollerballs and ballpoints, but there is always a space for a space pen when I'm out and about and need a pen that will ALWAYS work.

I have yet to try the bullet. I have the telescoping pen (love it) the black matte cap-o-matic (love it) and a modded zebra 701 (love it).

...but... I still notice a skip and occasional blot- new by the way, and a medium- dont need perfection but it seems not much better than any office Bic?! But its still cool :)

I've found Fisher cartridges to be much better than cheap bics and the like. It's not that they write any better but that they always write. I've broken the pens they were in but the cartridges have always held up fine.
