yes, there may have been some arguments but that happens when u put a couple thousand people on a forum. i ended yesterday with 145 comments and 15 likes, now its 140 comments and 13 likes. i wasnt even in the argument and my comments got deleted. is this how this forum is run? this is some 1984 stuff here. :D i want out of this forum, and will be requesting my account deletion. i will however continue to read. thankyou for being you. what are your thoughts on this? do u like the fact that certain conversations on this thread are surpressed?

Arguments are fine as long as they remain civil. If they don't, we try to remind the parties concerned, and if that doesn't work, we sometimes lock threads. If we come across content that is against the forum rules (e.g. spam or pornography), we will remove them from public view, but we generally do not delete posts, comments or threads.

We do not delete accounts either. If you want to stop using your account, just don't log in.

In each of your four posts that I removed from public view, you quoted posts by other members ... posts that I deemed inappropriate. Thus your posts were also removed from view.

Enforcement of forum rules and policies, as on any forum, sometimes includes removal from view of posts/threads. It's called moderation ... not suppression.

The exchange violated forum Rule #1: The Golden Rule - It's well known but bears repeating. Act as you'd wish others would act. A little mutual respect goes a long way. BAITING, TROLLING, and FLAMING are not considered mutual respect, and never have been. Repeat violators will be banned.

To reiterate, your posts included quotes of material that violated that rule.

I may be new, but with regard to the 1984 comparison (which I see used on many forums) it's important to remember this is not public space. It is privately owned, and we are all guests. There are rules, and human beings enforce them.
Again, hope no disrespect is taken as I am a newbie here; I've just seen this exact situation elsewhere.

I seemed to have experianced the same. Ive been on this forum and I liked it. But as of yesterday when I made a simple post regarding a thought I wanted to discuss, everyone got heated at the title and barraging me rather than talk about the topic. These were all "supporter" guys doing this and they got all the credit and backing. Is this how this forum works? People giving smart sarcastic answers rather than talking about something? One of my threads got locked due to that nonsense. If that is the case on how this forum is and the people on it, I would initally like my account deleted as well.

I'm not sure what the point is you're trying to make but ... eight different people responded. Four were supporters. Four were not.

I understand your frustration and acknowledge that the replies you received leaned towards sarcasm in some cases and that's probably not the best way folks could have responded to your thread. But on balance, it was an unfortunate choice of topics inasmuch as that particular subject has been discussed ad nauseam, not only on EDCF, but most any other forum where outdoor survival might be a topic. And almost always, those threads (on any forum) do not/have not ended well. And unfortunately, your thread was headed for the same fate. Thus it was locked before it spiraled further.

You're taking one isolated incident and indicting the entire forum "and the people on it." In doing so, you marginalize the 99.999% of productive posting that takes place.

OK to get peeved because of the way your thread went. I understand. But I'd also urge you to reconsider your conclusions.

Edit to add a comment: I'll also remind you that on nearly all other forums, publicly complaining about moderation decisions is a big no-no. On some — possibly many — this would result in your post being removed and your account being suspended or banned. In fact, EDCF rules speak to the issue: 6) The EDCF Staff reserve the right to make decisions deemed in the board's best interest. If there are questions or concerns about actions taken, they may be addressed through PM not on the open forum. Questioning Staff action in a post, rather than PM, could itself be considered grounds for termination of membership. All administrative decisions are final.

But for the moment, you've been given latitude to air your grievance — as long as you remain civil.

If anyone read the thread, they would have seen it was a much deeper question than what they thought the thread was about. And if I have to think twice about asking a question that is in no way, shape or form "BAD", than I wont waste my time here. I have already requested deletion on my account.

I think if you stick around this forum a bit and get a better feel for the community, you may want to stay here. I can understand you may feel as if you were targeted, however just because you want to discuss something does not mean it is acceptable. I find myself checking my newly written posts for something which may upset other members who are passionate about certain topics (as I have come to learn certain personalities over the time I have been a member). I will re-word them so my point comes across better and it does not incite a barrage of defensive posts towards me or offends anyone. The mods here are fair and do a good job with with keeping things even-keeled between members. It took me a few disagreements and some poorly worded posts to come to the realization that this is a community and other people here have their own opinions and beliefs. You will also find there are some topics which are TABOO and to stay away from them. This is a good community and having members who contribute in a positive light only make it better.

I don't mean any offense to either member posting their grievance. Respecting and understanding the rules of the forum (both written and unwritten) doesn't mean you are conforming or being forced into a situation of cultural assimilation. It just shows appreciation for the community. You will still be able to maintain your own identity. I bet if you stick around you will be happy with your decision.

The problem is that rather than giving a civil response to a thread that may be taboo, they go on the offense and start trying to be a bad@#% with a keyboard. I can go find that on Facebook.

I am doing no such complaining. I am merely stating my opinion on the matter and requesting my account deletion.

Good. I'm truly delighted to hear that.

To maybe add a little perspective, your experience on the thread was with 8 folks. The forum has over 27,000 members. Give the other 26,992 a chance. (I hope you realize, I'm trying to introduce a little levity here ;)).

A serious comment: a new (to you) forum is like any other new setting, where it sometimes takes a bit to get the hang of the environment. Not much different than in "real life." You've made ~80 other posts (besides the thread in question) that I presume went OK.

I hope that you'll decide to fully participate at some point in the future.
