I have a lot of outerwear for living in Northern CA. Hoodies, pull-overs, windbreakers, pea coats, a few polyester jackets that I like but seem too fragile to be the go-to.. no jacket I own is my EDC jacket.

Who here has an opinion on their personal (or dream) "go-to" best all around EDC jacket?

For me I'd think somewhere between a Barn Coat / Filson Cruiser / Carhartt Jacket, something lightly lined and great for Spring and fall that I could layer underneath for colder winter days. Quality and rugged enough for most activities. Thoughts?

Personally these days almost every jacket I own is made by paramo because they're so comfortable and weather proof without being boil in the bag or rustley, having said that I know exactly where you're coming from and I think you need to look at something made from ventile material, I've been looking myself for similar reasons because paramo isn't what you want around a camp fire etc but I'm yet to find the exact configuration I want in a ventile jacket. Snugpak do a great smock but it's a smock and not a jacket.

For me, it's a Kuhl Burr. Cotton canvas and micro-fleece lined. It's a nice looking casual jacket that's still rugged enough for outdoor activities.

I hesitated prior to purchasing, but I find myself wearing my TAD Ranger hoodie LT a lot when the weather turns colder.

My old TAD V8 Garage jacket. Wish I had bought two. Layers perfectly over the Ranger hoodie.

EDC jacket would have to be something from scottevest just because you can carry so much gear comfortably. I have a fleece too which is my favourite piece of clothing.

Yesterday I scored a nice Oakland Raiders leather jacket by Carl Banks on the bay. Its new with tags and I got it very, very cheap. I have a similar Steelers jacket by Carl Banks, and the leather on these jackets are so very soft and supple. And the lining is insulated and so very soft. Most comfortable leather jacket I've had by far. This one should be the same. My wife asks me "You got ANOTHER leather jacket?" and I grinned at her. What can I say? When it arrives, I'll massage in some mink oil to make it water resistant.

Just bought a British army desert came waterproof and breathable. Akin to goretex but way cheaper.

My perfect jacket, may not be YOUR perfect jacket. MY perfect jacket is a TAD Gear Stealth jacket.

Well, perfect for me, my trusty Cooper Leather Field Jacket:

Has eight fairly large pockets. Going on 40 years and still a great coat!

My go to shell jacket at the minute is a USN goretex. It's hard to find a good heavy duty hard wearing goretex jacket nowadays. Being in the UK mean people rarely associate it with the military. My favourite jacket has to be my Arktis B310 Waterproof combat smock in black. Just great and easily layering as they're built big.

Bombproof kit, not exactly non-military but really good kit.

Rohan field jacket. More pockets than a billiard hall.

I use a Dickies garage jacket. Last winter it was too warm in Seattle to wear much else.
