Besides ordering online do any local stores sell 550 paracord? There arent any surplus stores here in Lexington, Ky. I am new to this lanyard stuff and I dont wanna buy a whole bunch of it till I see how well I take to it.
I googled "Lexington Ky Army Surplus" and got 2 stores in Lexington. If you wanted to take a trip, Ft Knox is 2 hours away. I last time I was there it seemed there was a surplus store every other block. If you want to buy just a little bit of paracord try www.campingsurvival.com. They sell 50 foot lenghts in several colors for about 4 bucks and a lot of camping, survival and EDC stuff also.
i get mine right off of ebay. theres a guy who sells it by the foot. he has about 20-30 differant colors. its not as nice as the milspec stuff, but it makes nice braids and turks heads
Ive never been able to find a decent selection locally. I always order my 550 cord from Supply Captain.
There's a few places around me. There's a general surplus store that carries it, a military surplus that carries it, and the PX at Camp Grayling carries it. I love going in there, it's an EDC paradise!!
Main thing to remember is to buy 2X as much as you think you'll need. You will find more uses and wish you would have just bought more. Around my area it is typically $10/100ft hank. Slugger
Don't buy Amazon, stuff on there isn't real. Buy one from local army surplus stores like the guys above said. Or Countycomm.
I buy my paracord supplies mainly from supplycaptain. Good service. If I have a question or inquiries, say if availability of a certain color, they quickly answer my inquires which where posted in there facebook page.
5 Star EDC (5staredc) has been a good eBay seller (for me). Competitive pricing/shipping. Extensive color selection of regular 550 plus reflective and GITD.
If you want genuine Mil-C-5040H Type III paracord, then this place sells it in several colors: http://www.bestglide.com/550_cord_info.html
Countycomm is a good place, but only if you're going to get it as part of larger order, their shipping charges for a single item can be a little steep.
