As you might be able to tell from my nick and avatar, Cycling is my first passion, so I'm going to do this one at a time. This is my main roadie, a Merlin Cyrene custom Ti. I had this built up in the Fall of 2004, so I'm now entering my ninth season with this bike. As of yesterday, 35, 241.2 miles on the frame and the Brooks saddle. I'm on my third set of wheels and second set of shifters. Merlin really established the standard for Titanium many years ago. Unfortunately they were bought out by American Bicycle Group (ABG) and run into the ground. The brand was shut down about 4 years ago and sold to Competitive Cyclist 2 years ago. CC has just this week re-released the Merlin Extralight. I am hoping it is a resounding success and that they bring back the Cyrene, which is one of the most beautiful bikes ever made, IMHO. What made the Cyrene unique was the engraving used instead of decals and paint. It is the ultimate low maintenance ride, never rusts and a wash and quick rubdown with a Scotchbrite pad will bring it back to near new and perfect condition. Here's a few closeups of the engraving and my avatar when the bike was new: The Cyrene is the single most expensive thing I have ever bought for myself and it took a lot of brownie points and convincing before the wife signed off on it. It's been a great investment. I never grow tired of riding it and it is literally like new. I expect it will last for many years to come.
