That thing must have serious parasitic drain then. There is no reason for those batteries to run down that quickly. Sent from my ridiculously large Galaxy Note 2.
+1 for Goal Zero 10+, and the Nomad 7 solar panel with kit. Charge the AAs for my Streamlight ProTac 2AA, and charge the cell phone for emergencies.
I've got the Anker Astro 5600mAh pack and I just LOVE it! It will charge my tablet or phone about 3 times and is small enough to fit in my pocket and charge my phone while I continue to use it like normal. It has become an indispensable piece of gear in my bag! I highly recommend it! Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
You can open up just about anything that takes standard cells and replace. I've done it with Milwalkee drill batteries, pocket Pc's, laptop batteries... The only real questions are whether it takes some custom battery ie: a smartphone, and whether you'll be able to get the case open and resealed without damage. With, say, a laptop battery, that's a big deal. With a USB battery pack that will get dropped in a bag? Whatever.
I use a Solio Classic, You can carge little stuff with it also its a back up battery that you can charge via wall power.
+1 on the ZaggSparq. These are great little units! I can get at least three full charges on my iPhone 4 with one of these. I generally EDC a Duracell Powerhouse (which will provide one full charge, plus some more...), along with a USB cable, and an iPhone cable, and a dual USB car-charging plug, so I can keep that up. If I'm going to be out for longer periods (especially traveling), I'll take the ZaggSparq with me, in a separate pouch, along with some other iPhone accessories (3.5mm interface cable, Tascam iM2 Stereo Microphone, etc.)
I was able to pick up an Iogear 6600 power pack for $35 and I can't believe it took me so long to get one. I used to carry around 2 extra batteries for my phone (a Galaxy Nexus, notorious for horrible battery life) but it was always a hassle remembering which was charged when and how much. Now all I essentially have a stupid-proof extra 3.5 batteries in my pack at all times
I always carry this, is a 18650 charger with USB output, when I need it I just have to use any of my 18650 batteries that I carry with my lights, cheap and easy to carry https://www.fasttech.com/products/1298203-2013
I've got a few, but I don't EDC them. Only when I anticipate needing one. I use this one for portability/single device use: http://www.amazon.com/New-Trent-flashlight-Incredible-Blackberry/dp/B0013G8PTS/ref=sr_1_21?ie=UTF8&qid=1371418779&sr=8-21&keywords=portable+usb+charger But I want to switch to this for its built-in micro USB: http://www.amazon.com/PowerGen-PGMPP6000-External-sensation-Thunderbolt/dp/B008TXCMFQ/ref=sr_1_31?ie=UTF8&qid=1371418779&sr=8-31&keywords=portable+usb+charger And this for travel (I like the built-in prongs): http://www.amazon.com/New-Trent-Travelpak-7000mAh-Built-In/dp/B00BFOU3FW/ref=pd_sim_e_5
I built one for myself using a homemade circuit, recycled solar lights, and a broke backup battery. It works great
I've had a few New Trent external batteries for portable use and haven't been thrilled with their actual power compared to the claims. I decided to give the Intocircuit PC11200 a shot based on great reviews and excellent pricepoint. I will test it and report back on how it is. For camping, I take a small deep cycle battery and connect an alligator clip 12v connecter and charge whatever I want via car charger and usb. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BB5GR0A/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
That would have to be made up of aaa batteries to get even close to that size- 2 aaa would give you a 1600mah external battery at best.
I carry a little Energizer 2000mAh USB battery at the minimum. For going out of town, or if I know I'm going to be away from the house or car for a longer period, I take my 8800 mAh New Trent. Both have served me very well for about 3-4 years now.
I carry a battery pack. I can charge up my phone/kindle/ipad if I need to. Particularly useful when flying, I'll plug in my iPhone in my hand luggage and charge it in flight so it's fully charged when I land. Smartphones are great, useful tools, but they don't last.
I make my own for the wife and i.There is a small store by my that sells electrical copmonents and the owner is a very nice guy always has what i neeed and knows his stuff. Its good to have one on you.
Seems Verbatim has gotten in on the power pack market. Here is their AA offering: http://www.verbatim.com/prod/accessories/power-pack-chargers/aa-power-pack/ And here is the whole range: http://www.verbatim.com/subcat/accessories/power-pack-chargers/
