I live in WA state where as far as I know, it is completely illegal to carry any type of fixed blade knife, regardless of size. It's a shame, because I would much prefer to carry a fixed over a folder. Some day I will be able to move to my home state (MT) and I can carry my fixed blade knives! Until then I can dream.

Just curious as to what you all carry, and why.

Also can anyone recommend to me a place to get a custom kydex sheath for my CRKT Sting? I lost the original and my google-fu is weak tonight apparently.

I carry a BK-14 with izula handles. I carry it because I like the feel of a fixed blade, I really like 1095 steel, carrying IWB frees up much needed pocket space, and its easier for me to deploy.

I've heard good things about Godspeed tactical, never done business with him but the products i've seen before seem high quality.

I wouldn't be without one. Every day some flavor or other and a small folder for around people work.

I generally carry a candiru, mostly as a backup for tasks where I'll do undue harm to my native 5.

I carry a BK14 as well with a horizontal belt carry since I am too fat to IWB it.

I've been EDC'ing a small K-Bar TDI for a while now and recently started incorporating a BK14 into my EDC as well. I carry the TDI at 1:00 with the stock sheath and belt clip. I have been experimenting with the BK14 at 8:00 with the stock sheath and a TDI clip, or scout carry (horizontal @ 6:00) using the stock sheath and some soft loops. Gibson Holsters makes some decent kydex knife sheaths.

Edited to answer the WHY question in the OP: I carry the TDI for self defense, as well as for possible weapon retention while carrying my concealed handgun. I started carrying the BK14 as a general utility knife and to see how I like it and to compare the experience to an EDC folder.

There are huge numbers of people that carry fixed bladed knives but the number is going down. Shouldn't you first know what you will be using it for before picking the knife? Often times the most popular might not be so useful for you.

I promise that the knives that get used for hours and hours on end would be very boring for many of the people out here and some of the knives out here would not be so useful for those that do really long stints at knife usage.

I think the OP has the knives and uses for them but may not be able to carry them because of local laws. He just wants an idea of what other folks carry and for what purpose, not which fixed blade to buy or carry.

Oops, I just realized I left out the WHY in my previous reply... (previous post edited)

Simonich Talonite Mini-Talon along with a stubby Ti spork in my lunch bag because I don't rely on utensils available at the workplace cafeteria.

I carry this little fixed blade everyday
    [IMG]
Although a member and friend was nice enough to send pictures of a fixed blade they made that will be part of my daily carry. Can't wait to show it off.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,

I would love to be able to squeeze a fixed into everyday life. If I start working another job wearing scrubs all the time again, I probably will switch to a neck knife since that's what I used to always carry. Right now I'm working at Best Buy and I carry a Strider SnG and a Victorinox Cadet on a daily basis. I used to carry a neck knife as well but my other blades were a bit less strange looking to take out of a Best Buy uniform.

I've been carrying a Spyderco Mule Team knife in the ruler pocket of my carpenter jeans every day since the program started. It gives me a chance to try out new steels at relatively low cost in a useful general utility knife. My work can be really hard on knives, so I appreciate one that won't fold up on my fingers no matter what I do.
