I'm from Scotland originally and the only time I got to shoot handguns was on the Black Dog range when I was in the Army Cadets, Browning Hi Powers at bowling pins, then some nut job walked in to a Primary School and murdered children which lead to rounding up all the handguns in the country and banning them.

I moved to the states after college and my first Handgun was in 2002, back in Rochester, NY. I applied for my pistol permit and my green card at the same time, the permit took 9 months to get back because 9/11 happened in the middle of it. Unfortunately at the time you couldn't rent handguns in the area so I had to go with what 'felt' right in the store and I got a Smith and Wesson Sigma 9ve, I couldn't hit a thing with it so I traded it in for a Beretta 9000 which my buddy bought off me when I moved to WA.

Didn't shoot for a few years in part due to the fact I couldn't be bothered getting an Alien Firearms permit, but then I was able to buy a CZ82 in 9mm makarov for $250 shipped not long after I became a citizen. Then Sandy Hook happened and getting 9mm Mak was a pain so I sold it to my buddy and bought my Sig P229 even though I never wanted a .40 but hey .40 was always available. I recently picked up a Taurus 85 in .38 in trade for an AR15 barrel and that is the gun I carry.

That's the long and short of it!

The first handgun I received I inherited from my grandfather in 2008 at the age of 18 after he died. It is a Beretta 948 that he bought in Italy when he was in the navy. The first one I bought was a Smith & Wesson M&P in 9mm when I was 22 in 2013.

Ruger LCP sold it towards a RIA 1911. Wish I kept it now but eh might pick another one up eventually.

Unfortunately I have a felony record and cannot own guns in Ca.

I have shot only 1 handgun before, think it was a glock.... I'm not knowledgeable on guns whatsoever, i just know it's a 9 mm.

I do want a glock if I could get rid of my record.

My very first handgun was a police trade in Sig Sauer P226 (old early "red hammer") which started my love of the SIG and made me fill my safe with classic P series pistols! :)
    When was 2000.

I bought a Ruger GP100 Stainless with 6" barrel shortly after I turned 21 in 1999. I still have it but it sees little use these days. Hindsight I wished I had gotten the 4", at least that would have been possible to conceal carry in a pinch. LOL

I'm not sure which one was first but when I was living in Germany in 1966, I had both a Luger 9mm and a Mauser C96 with the shoulder stock, which was wobbly. However, the first new gun I ever bought a couple of years later was a Browning Hi-Power, when they came in a zippered pouch. It cost about $100 and I remember I had a lot of trouble paying for it. Since then, I've owned lots and lots of different handguns including a new Single Action Army and a pre-war Registered .357 Magnum. Currently I have two 9mm automatics and a .380. If I started over and could manage to limit myself to just one gun, it would be a Colt .38 Super. I've already had two and I have no idea why I don't have one now. But I don't want to tie up my wealth in guns. I joke that I want to own every gun that interests me, except that I can only do it one at a time and I'm running out of time.

I had lefty parents until my father got car-jacked at gun-point and decided he had enough of Detroit street thugs.

Funny how quickly people change their stance on gun ownership when they have some skin in the game.

A Conservative is liberal who's been mugged.

A liberal is a conservative who's been indicted.

    Old saying.
