Since a lot of people have smartphones nowadays, I'm curious to know what are some of the most-used apps you use almost every day? Besides the default ones on the phones already. Maybe we'll find some new apps to try out. To start off, these are my top 5 that I use frequently. Spotify - Prefer using this over Apple Music and Pandora, since there's so many great playlists for Lo-Fi and international songs. Tik Tok - I'm ashamed...but this app has become the bane of my existence. Pinterest - As a photographer, this helps a lot with brainstorming ideas/concepts. Also, just a lot of random articles/photos I find interesting on here from time to time. Google Voice - Since I don't have a 2nd phone just for work, I use this so people don't have my personal one. Quality of phone calls are pretty clear for 95% of the calls I have on here. Reddit - Just started using this not too long ago, but definitely one of the more entertaining social media platforms that I'm using quite often now.
Aside from the normal apps, I find the following to be extremely helpful: GrafNCalc83 - a TI-83 emulator for my iPhone, used daily Scanner App - used for "scanning" documents to PDF, signing documents, and generally managing PDFs WhatsApp - it's a great for large group chats and compresses videos better than dedicated compression apps StoCard - it's a bit fiddly, but it keeps me from carrying a wallet full of rarely used cards SnapSeed - great photo-editing software (though not as magical as its commercials) Amazon Photos - great free photo back-up (at least so far) I also agree with @HungryMelon about Google Voice. If you ever rent out or sell a house, get a Google Voice number and use that. I'm still getting Google Voice messages about a house that sold a year ago.
Most used is tricky, as I feel that covers both frequency of use and time spent in app. And for some types of use the function is more important than the specific app used. I’ll try to break it down as best I can: Podcasts: This is the big winner for time spent in app, unfortunately not all Podcasts are available in the same app, so my listening is spread across Podcasts (Apple), YouTube, Spotify, Stitcher, Odysee and Overcast. YouTube is probably the most used among them, as I have Premium to use it with the screen turned off and that also includes access to YT Music, so I now I also use it for my music listening as well as all the other YouTube stuff like reviews, how to do’s and all of that. Chrome: The most versatile app has to be the web browser. News, forums, researching, most anything you need to- or would like to look up. Evernote: Used it for a long time to keep my note cross platform. It’s good, but I’m considering a move to a less pricey option. Camera/Google Photos: These two kind of go together. Take photos of everything; receipts, notes, whiteboards, documents (scanning), kids artwork and regular photos. Google photos for backup, organizing and cross platform access. Topological outdoor maps: Use a couple different ones as they each have their pros and cons. I believe they are all based out of Norway and Scandinavia. Weather: Every day, several times each day. Weather changes a lot around here. Knowing approximately what to expect is key to a successful day. Both for me and my family. There’s a bunch more useful apps that I don’t necessarily use very often, but still very useful when I do.
My phone is currently more of a time sinking, soul sucking abyss than I'd care to admit. 1. Spotify- I have premium so this covers all of my music streaming needs. This also covers some of my podcasts. 2. Samsung Music- if I'm not streaming music, I have plenty to choose from in my personal catalog. 3. Instagram- I have 2 accounts, one personal and one professional. This is the biggest time waster that I have. Really considering getting rid of social media altogether. 4. Anchor and SoundCloud- these cover the rest of my podcasts. 5. Waze- I don't often need it for navigation, but since I have kind of a lead foot, it's nice to know where the police sit. 6. Tapatalk- this one gets a mention because I find myself getting back into this forum as my life crumbles around me, and it's the only community I really interact with. Everything else I use is generally a waste of either time or money. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
Thanks for sharing! Social media really can be a time waster and a black hole, so easy to get lost in it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
In order of decreasing frequency of use: Firefox Evernote-- having the Linux beta for desktop use has increased my use of this app a lot. The older emulators and web access worked, but the native app is quite good. X-plore (file management and viewer/editor) Signal FBReader--I recently imported an Inkpalm ereader the size of a phone and have been using this app on there as well. The e-ink screen is nice and a very compact device. K9 mail Calendar News (google app-- news feed aggregator) Youtube Maps (google) For media playback, MX Player for video. VLC still seems a bit immature on Android. I need to try it again though, its been a while. Neutron for audio playback. Primarily because it will direct drive the DAC amp on a USB C audio dongle. And the UI is not as bad as the free apps that handle DAC access.
Unless you want to be really public to everyone, make sure you limit who can see the "Map My Ride" info is shared with. Didn't realize mine was shared on FB and other social media apps until a lady who lives 5 blocks away pointed it out to me.
Sadly, social media is the bane of mine: Facebook (but I also mod/admin two groups/pages) Twitter You-Tube Tap-A-Talk Fidelity Banking
