I have a rule that I only chamber a cartridge ONCE in the semi-auto handgun that I carry daily FOR defense. "Switching to something else" simply means that you are moving the problem to "something else."
These are excellent choices with very good track records. From my custom 5.5-inch Browning Hi-Power, I consistently get 1380-1385 feet per second 2-inches from the muzzle as measured with a calibrated measuring device from the restricted, law-enforcement-only Federal 115-grain 9BPLE. Very minimal standard deviation: an indication of excellent quality control by the maker. I don't typically use this load in my P-35 since my preferred load is the nominally-rated 1150 fps Federal 115-grain 9BP for its superb accuracy. The sizzling Cor-Bon 115-gain +P will often obtain 1400 fps from the P-35; however, the standard deviation is greater.
Whatever's cheap and 124 or 147 gr for range shooting and my carry loads are either 124 or 147 hst or jhp Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Range - Reloads via my father's Dillon 550. Carry - I'm currently running Hornady 147gr XTP in my Glock 26.
If you guys might be looking for some decent plinking/range ammo, it looks like Cabelas is having a sale on Blazer Brass at the moment. I'm sure they cycle their sales and change them weekly but I saw that the Blazer Brass ammo was cheaper than aluminum case ammo is usually around my area. Just thought I'd mention it, in case anybody might need to pick some up for some range time.
I've shot thousands of these and would buy them again. Not a fan of Aluminum ones, but went though 500 a year ago and they worked fine.
For EDC and home defense I load up with Hornady Critical Defense 115 Gr. For range use I use whatever FMJ I can find for a good price.
It looks like the price of this ammo is around $10 a box at several places. Cabelas was the main "big box" store that I saw but it looks like there's quite a few places online that are around that price point, if not a few cents above. As far as I know, all of the Blazer Brass is totally brass ammo. I'd imagine it would make for some good plinking ammo while having good reloading brass, for those who like to reload.
Glock 19 or 26. Range: what ever is cheap. Just ordered 500 rounds of 9mm Remington practice ammo. Carry: Hornady Critical Defense 124 gr XTP +P.
Cor-Bon +P or Federal Hydra-Shok (not the low recoil version), depends on which pistol. Usually carry a .45 though (same ammo, different caliber). Still warming up to a 9mm, but I do like the form factor of the 9mm over the .45.
Range: cheapest WalMart ammo Carry: Federal HST (actually HST in every caliber I have that they make)
Range ammo whatever I find except steel Carry ammo for a long time Hornady Critical Duty 135gr. +p , but have recently taken a liking to the Sig V-crown 124gr. The Sig ammo has been super accurate for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I actually don't have a go-to. Range is whatever is at a good price and defense I look for 124gr +P from just about any good company. I'm not even sure what I have loaded now. It may be HST, Gold Dots, Golden Saber... Not positive. I do know that it's about 5 months old for the box and the rounds have been cycled out after sitting too long and all have been checked for set back. As long as my gear is clean and ready, I don't get too crazy over specific loads. I don't trust one brand to be better at saving my life than another when it comes down to my ability to stop an attacker.
Range: Either American Eagle or CCI Blazer (I tried some Bosnian ammo and had some failures to fire and a hang fire, so I'm all American now). Carry: Federal HST 147 grain standard pressure in my Shield, Speer Gold Dot 124 grain +P in everything else. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
I really like the Herter's (Cabela's) aluminum case, total nylon jacket ammo for range use. It's usually cheapest and it's super easy to clean up afterwards. I mostly carry HSTs. Once in a while I can't find them, so I've carried PDX-1, the new Sig Sauer JHPs, and Hornady Customs.
