What is everyone's go to 9mm ammo for the range & home defense? I prefer Federal 115 fmj (white box) & I just purchased a few boxes of Geco 124g fmj on sale that I cant wait to shoot. I'm looking for a good home defense round as well, any suggestions would be great. I have a M&P Shield 9mm.

Range - whatever 9mm JHP was cheap at the time I bought it. I don't remember what brands. For defensive loads I think it's Federal HST. 124+P or 147 regular pressure. I don't remember what's loaded in the Glock, but it's one of those.

Hornady Critical Defense in my daily carry load.
Lowest or average priced FMJ for range and plate shooting.

Speer 9mm 124 gr. +P Gold Dot for carry. For practice, whatever 124 gr brass cased ammo I can get on line the cheapest, Geco, Lawman, Blazer, whatever.

For the range Freedom Munitions reloads in the same weights as my carry ammo.

For carry in smaller guns (PM9 and PPS) HST LE. For the small guns, I used to use the 124 gr+p, but more recently have moved to the 147gr. I found I shot better with it and I liked the penetration and expansion characteristics. On my full size guns, I run Winchester Ranger 127gr +p+ (years back, I bought enough to last for many years) or HST LE 147+p

Our Glocks and Shields are currently all loaded with 147-gr HSTs.

Range stuff is whatever I can find in the same weight in large quantities. Usually American Eagle, Law man, etc.

For the range mostly Winchester white box. Really whatever Walmart has I'll buy. I used to buy the federal aluminum cased because they were right around $10 for 50. My P250 doesn't like those though. Was having some failures to extract and I'm pretty sure I've narrowed it down to the aluminum casings.

Carry ammo it's Remington green box 115gr HP. I pick up the 100 round boxes. They feed reliably in my guns and are accurate. Plus they're inexpensive enough so I can keep plenty on hand and shoot them off just about every time I go to the range.

Update: I wasn't all that thrilled with how the Federal 115g White Box shot so I got a box of 9mm Eagle 124g (Red Box). I found that my gun seemed to like the 124g Eagle much more. It was noticeably hotter and snappier but shot great & accurate.

For range use WWB, Remington UMC, American Eagle, Blazer Brass. No particular order, whatever there's a deal on. I did just buy some Geco in bulk, but in .38 Special.

For defensive use, Federal HST 124 grain, regular pressure. I'd pick up some +P if I could find it.

I prefer Remington UMC, American Eagle, HPR Hyperclean, or Lawman for range, mainly good stuff at a decent price no matter the grain weight. I don't always buy the "cheapest" but stick with relatively clean factory stuff or boutique brands like Atlanta Arms. As for defensive ammo I go with Federal HST 147 gr. or Hornady XTP Custom.

I've shot about 7.5K rounds of range 9mm so far this year (two planned range dates left). I buy whatever is brass-cased, from a reasonably reputable manufacturer, that's least expensive. I buy when ammo is cheap rather than when I need it. This year I've bought Blazer Brass, S&B, Aguila, GECO, Privi Partizan, PMC, American Eagle, and MagTech (and I have more 9mm now than I started the year with). Other than deliberately induced malfunctions in training, this year I've had two FTEs, one on M&9 9mm full-size that had been about 5K rounds between cleanings and the other on Shield 9mm that was freshly cleaned and lubricated. For the first one, I don't remember the brand of ammo, the second was a few days ago with Blazer Brass. No other problems to report.
