Hey guys, been frequenting these forums, and I never hear anything about Luminox, whether it's negative, positive, or whatever. It's strange to me, because I hear things I've never heard of all the time, like GSAR and stuff, but Luminox never comes up. When I think "tactical" watch though, I think of the plastic Luminoxes. I have a Luminox Ultimate Field Chronograph 823 that I picked up used, and I really like it. What do you guys think about Luminox? Something I should know about the company? Thanks
From what I've read, their older products were great but their QC has had some issues lately (hands falling off, watch dying) I don't know if the issues had been addressed. They seem to be moving in a higher direction pricewise with their cheapest models around $200 (too much for a plastic cased quartz) and some models topping $1000. That said I have two; the original Navy seal and a stainless steel 8000 series neither have had any issues. There are also numerous threads on Lumis in watch specific forums; ie watchuseek.
That sucks to hear that their quality is not so great. I've been eyeballing Luminox for a while now. When I get serious about getting a new watch, I'll have to dig deeper into this.
Quality not as good based on what facts? I own an ULTIMATE SEAL 6342 and it's been a fantastic performer. Customer service is also first rate.
Thanks for the replies. From what I can tell, my Luminox is pretty much perfect. It's also an 823, which is discontinued, so maybe I lucked out and scored an older one.
Have had my 3051 for over a year now as well. Love it. Looks good. And tons of compliments. The weight will fool you though. It feels "cheap" if you have never held one before. But it is strong, and love the fact that I don't feel it on my wrist. Definitely my go to watch.
I've had a 3000 Series Luminox for about 7 years now. I've replaced the plastic band with a Zulu, changed the battery once, and worn it as a beater watch. I've seen them incredibly overpriced from specialty stores, but you can usually find them for good prices online or from some good retailers. My watch has held up well. there are lots of scuffs on the bezel, a couple on the crystal. It keeps good time (quartz mov't) and the glow from the tritium markers is still nice and bright. I had no over-inflated ideas about what I was getting but I have been quite happy with it.
Excellent taste in knives and watches Deeker (I carry a CLB Direkt daily) On topic: I'm not a fan of Luminox. They generally 'try too hard' is the feeling I get. They sell bright yellow watches (OK, they look cool...) but then plaster the "NAVY SEAL" tag over them and a big honkin' logo. That's hardly subtle. It seems like a mall ninja brand to me. I personally prefer Traser. Same general style, Swiss movements, actual military issue... and they don't have the shouty colors, names or logo on them. Staying with the pointy-object-with-watch-pic theme: Traser P6500 / SOG Seal Pup Elite And yes, I am well aware of the irony of me calling Luminox a mall ninja brand while carrying something called the Seal Pup Elite
ive got two of the older ones a colormark series in black and a titanium 3602 in silver couldnt be more pleased with them!
I have a 3 year old 3200. Runs like a champ. I tend to be hard on watches and this has stood up well. A side note- I hated the dive clasp band. Would not stay locked, so I replaced the band with a zulu strap. But the watch itself is great.
My Luminox 3059(SAR) was the first "rugged" everyday watch that i bought, no problems regarding the case and movement for almost 3years. The strap is the first thing that had problems(rubber cracking) but it was solved by replacing the stock one with a zulu nylon strap. Overall, my experience with using/owning a luminox is good, but not the best.
I had a 3051 for about a year, no issues felt cheap and mine never kept the greatest time +1 min or so a day but otherwise I had no complaints its since been replaced with a gsar
I had a 3000 for about 3 years and lost it. It preformed well. I replaced it with a TAWATEC and like it much better.
