It's zero degrees Fahrenheit right now, and I wore my UGG boots to shovel and blow snow and now going to wear them to church. Feet are nice and toasty.

I just pulled the trigger (after a week of researching) on a pair of Moab mid-level Ventilators, in Walnut. I had really wanted the Beluga color (gray/black) but I could find NONE available in my size, 9W, anywhere. I had an Amazon gift card so I decided to give them a try. There are a load of positive comments here. Hoping that I made a good choice...

I have a pair of Merrell Chameleon Wrap's - lovely and comfy but I just wish they were better at keeping water out. I do keep searching for Nike SFBs in my size on the Bay...

I was quite disappointed in the selection, in that I've worn EEE shoes for as long as I can remember. Shoes in wide widths are tougher to find. Years ago I bought several pair of Mephisto shoes and boots. They are handmade, so comfortable and wonderful overall, but EXPENSIVE. After my problems with Vasque's narrower-than-normal toe box and, consequently, a complete waste of $150, I wanted to give Merrell a shot. Mind you, the mid-level vent isn't as wintery a boot as the Vasques but I wanted something for everyday. Amazon's Merrell boot selection in Wide Widths didn't leave me much choice, as black/dark gray colors were available only in D (Medium) width. I looked at the Pulsate and spoke to Merrell Cust Service and it looks like the Pulsate is heavier than the Moab and it's sole is rubber, not Vibram. Hopefully I can wear the Moabs on an everyday basis this winter, at least when it isn't snowing.

If you think EEE is hard to find, so are 5A's in woman's size 14. That's practically a cross country ski. Long and skinny. Thanks Mom for giving them to me.

Psyched that my Merrell Moab vents arrived today. They fit great and feel wonderful, as if they're already broken in.

I picked up a pair of Ecco Biom Hikes that were 40% off at the local ecco store. Thought I'd wear them around the house to break the yak leather in, but they're actually more comfortable than my slippers! Kevlar rand, too... hope they last a while, because my last Merrells were junk compared to older ones I've owned. These seem better made. [IMG]

I am wearing a pair of army surplus highland brogues, stock number 8430-99-975-3093 (no kidding). They have a steel toe tap and horseshoe but no hobs. Highly polished, of course, but they're just for indoor office wear. For outside wear, I have a non-descript pair of insulated chukka boots, also highly polished, imported at great expense all the way from China. I bought them used, however. They're perfect for winter weather but a little chunky for driving. Sorry I can't do photos.

    Mudinyeri,

I've looked at these online - they are quite pricey. Have you found that they are worth the money? What are the best and worst aspects of the LALO boots?

    thanks!

We'll have a full review on Trek Tech Black in a couple weeks but here are some early impressions:

    1. Very lightweight with a high-top athletic shoe fit and look
    2. More stiff and structured than an athletic shoe to hold up to hard use and weight bearing activities
    3. Excellent water drainage and breathe-ability
    4. Not great in the snow; snow packs in and doesn't melt out in cold weather
    5. The composite plate provides support (for weight bearing) and spring (for athletic endeavors)
    6. Size 10 was a good fit. Size 12 was about a half size large. Slightly wider than average toe box. Average heel width.

A few early impressions don't equate to $350. And ... I think GOVX has them for $250.

I will say this, I get to see a LOT of boots and test nearly as many. These boots have more (useful) features than any I can recall in recent history.
