I do the same with a Buff and i carry bandannas in my back pockets for easy clean up when washing hands . The buff is great for taking the chill of the neck during winter also .

i ordered 2 black, micro fleece neck gaiters a couple weeks ago.

they're a bit tight at first, but not too tight where i feel like i'm choking with it on.

i've been looking at the merino wool buffs as well and i think i may order a couple (or few) of those.

I am also using Buff one during winter but I just can't put it over nose because when I am breathing my glasses get hazy (couldn't find the right word but I am sure that you know what I mean).

Drop the buff just below your nose - it'll allow your breath to escape and lessen the effects of 'fogging'

Merino wool Buff or large pashmina (very fine cashmere wool)/silk blend scarf. Quite lightweight but suitable for what we Southern Californians call winter.:D

I have an EDCF Buff that I use mostly during the winter around my neck to fill the gap between my coat and bat, and works perfectly. But every day I package a "ban-diddly-danna" as my man Flanders would say. Food in the beard? Sweating up the place? Wife crying? Bandana.

Until today I had never heard of a "Buff" (well, except for in reference to the B-52)...had to go google it, although I had figured I knew what you all meant. Back in my infantry days, we'd cut the thigh section out of a pair of polyprop leggings and use that as a neckwarmer, balaclava etc. Man I wish I'd thought of giving it a cool name and marketing it, 20+ years ago :D

Using a cheap tube thing to protect my ears and mouth when biking in the cold and a scarf round my neck. Rather interested in this buff thing though for the summer. My wife is very interested, at least I won't have to cover up this purchase as she wants one too. :D

I have a huge collection of shemaghs collected over the years and bought on middle eastern travels, but so far my fav is still the 5.11 shemagh, i like the color and weight (its always a struggle to find shemaghs that are either too thin and useless or too thick and heavy) [IMG] the problem I have with my buffs is that they are not warm enough and when covering my face its lets air in underneath.

Buffs do come in other materials and even winter-weight. I really like 'em when the wind starts blowing at 20°F and less. Personally never had the wind sneak in underneath.

Can't always teach old dogs new tricks but they still know how to bite.

Nothing. I wish I could have something when the wind kicks up here and the temps drop to single digits, but everything I've tried fogs up my glasses.

For awhile i have needed something to block cold, wipe sweat, and cover sun. Old age does not come easy. These days i love Buff/tube scarf. It comes truly handy in all weathers. Next comes bandana, wich i carry along next to these modern tube scarfs. Rather like them to wipe sweat off from my head on a hot day, hands after wash or dirty jobs. More of a practical use than a need to cover something like a tubes. Scarf comes in handy on cold winter days. I like thick wool scarfs, that will feel so warm when temperatures goes below zero Celsius. They will warm a man really good.
I own one shemag, and i have not yet find practical use for it yet. I think i will try to use it this winter, and find use for it.

Any tips for using it could come handy...

Great thread! I'm in the market for a shemagh! I have a traditional red and white one that I bought in Saudi Arabia 20 years ago. I'd like to get nice khaki/od green one.

Whos a good seller of them? I've been out of the tactical gear scene for awhile...
