    This.

Just because it can technically pass through doesn't mean a TSA agent in the wrong mood won't take it anyway.

Yeah she's already saying she probably won't take it just to be safe.

That's why I'm glad the USB detaches.

No the bushings are things you referred to as collets. ;)

Gotcha! Thanks. :) Yeah I was pretty careful drilling them out. Some of the BUSHINGS ( :p) even came out perfectly unscathed. :)

Oh and the Rover showed up today. I already pulled the bottle opener out of it. Just waiting on the USB drive now!

Nice. Yeah I may put something together kinda like that.

Or maybe I'll put together a larger Alox. Who knows?

    Making progress! Nearly done!

    Got the Orange Alox USB...

The drill is looking for lunch... This just FEELS WRONG!

IT HURRRRTS! (Stupid drill bit broke, nicking the back scale. You can see it just below the top left pivot hole. :( )

Took FOREVER to get everything lined up because I mismatched some of the back springs... once I realized my mistake it went together much easier.

    Mock-up
    [IMG]

Pivot pins trimmed, bushes going on
    [IMG]

Haven't finished peening it yet, so the scales are just resting on the unpeened pins.

All that's left is to hone my peening skills, snap it all back together, put the snap ring in place, toss in the toothpick & tweexers and hand it over to my girl :)

I think my next project is to make a near identical one with those Orange Alox scales, but replace the cuticle pusher with a blade and add a wharnclife & ruler to make it a ULTRA Mini Champ ;)

    All finished!

Peening was way harder than I expected. Because of the skinny little 1.5mm pivot pins, stability was an issue so the layers got a little crooked. I had to keep flipping, twisting, squishing & squashing in different directions to get it closer to square up. The end product isn't quite as perfect as I want it to be, but in the end all of the tools come out and snap back pretty smoothly and I didn't need to start over again, so for a first try I couldn't be happier!

I didn't snap any shots of the peening process, but here's the final product.

Looks awesome. That's a configuration I'd probably make for myself if I was to customize. :)

Thanks. Can't wait to get a few more bits in to make one for myself with those orange alox scales. Undecided if I wanna go w/ a USB or not. I practically never need one.

Nice job. I've been thinking of chopping up this bad boy and making it into a rambler.

What tool do you use to peen the rivet? Ball peen hammer?

Whatever hard objects I had on my workbench. lol. Regular hammer, a big plunt phillips head screwdriver for a finer point, a vice that I used as an anvil and my dremmel to smooth em flush with the bushings.

Did the scale snap on the rivets or did you need to use an adhesive? Sorry for all the questions!

The scales snapped onto the bushings. You can see them here... right pivot pins\s no bushings, left pivot pins with bushings. Pic obviously taken before the pins were trimmed down, peened and ground flush.

Just finished a similar one for a buddy of mine. Took a Rambler & added a USB to it.
