Hi, I am a totally noob to EDC. I see lot of people talking about min pry bars, but I wonder what is the use of such tools in real life ? If I ask, it is because I neved used a full size one in my whole life (except in Half Life to kill aliens, combines, and destroy various stuff), so I am curious about mini ones
:welcome: Welcome to EDC Forums, sbillard. There are a few threads which address your question. A search reveals these threads: What is the fascination with the prybars? Utility of prying, what do you use your prybar for?
Paint tins at work, packaging, opening boxes and more stuff that I have forgotten due to alcohol consumption over the weekend.
I think a craftsman screwdriver is a cheaper and more useful alternative. If you lose it; big deal. If you mess it up they have the lifetime warranty. It's not a piece of art but I don't want a piece of art on my key ring anyway.
You don't have to get a piece of art. The ones from County Comm are good, and I use my Gerber Artifact all the time.
Maybe, but it isn't nearly as handy or compact to carry in a pocket, on a keychain, or in a small PSK. The CountyComm versions have served me well for the last year or so.
I've found that they easily break open those tough pistachio shells. You know, the ones that only have a microscopic opening! ;D
I used the Gerber Artifact to scrape and pry ice from the inside of rain gutters while I was standing atop a ladder. It is also handy for scraping the mud from the soles of boots.
That is brilliant! I have been eating lots of pistachio's lately and will no longer use a pocket knife on the troublesome ones...thanks! AI
I've used the artifact at work to remove screws from walls and to pry a board that was painted on the wall also. It also excels at opening an ice cold corona or bud.
The short answer is, everything that you could use your knife for but feel bad about abusing the blade.
