I recently bought a Glock 19 and didn't realize until after paying that they only came with California-compliant 10-round mags. Not a big deal, I have more Glock mags, but are there some good uses for these things in a state where larger magazine capacities are legal? Good training tool? Good to keep loaded as spares? Better to sell them? Thanks in advance-
Well my point was, why would I use them if I can legally own magazines of the same physical size that carry more rounds? I don’t mean to sound snarky or facetious, but I’m genuinely curious if it’s beneficial in any practical sense beyond just having a few extra mags laying around.
Depends how many you already have, but they are certainly good enough for magazine drills. Magazine drills are hard on the mags and doesn’t require many rounds. In a pinch, they’re also better than no magazines.
Hang them on the wall where you will see them everyday. When you think about not voting in a local, state or federal election this will remind why you should always vote.
If you already have higher capacity mags you will use in the gun and to carry, use the 10 rounders for emergency backup in random locations. Glovebox/center console of your vehicles. Various locations around the house. Coffee table drawer, office, kitchen, bathroom?, etc.. Bug out bag if you have one...
Do you still have them? What state are you in? I will trade you for new 15 Round Factory Glock magazines.
I agree with using these for magazine drills and beaters on the range. Keep your good mags for home use and carry. Let the 10 rounders be used as beaters on the range.
IDPA matches with them? Mag drills. Or sell to those in states with the limit. Glock mags are cheap so you did not make that big of a mistake.
I also have a couple of 10 round magazines that came with my Gen 3 Glock 17. As mentioned, range magazines are a good use. You would also be surprised how "light" the gun got when only loaded with 10 rounds versus 17. Sometimes I'll use the 10 round magazines around the house when I'm not worried about capacity and want something a little "lighter".
I’ve never owned a Glock so I don’t know that would be possible. I did have a Bersa Thunder 9 where the 10rd factory mag it came with was stamped in a way that would have made it nearly impossible to expand its capacity.
I did not know that Glock even did that. Are they now shipping all of their guns with 10 round mags (Or less, depending on the model, of course) to non LEO customers? As for what you can do with them, I've never had a 10 round mag of theirs (Other than the ones for my 26 & 30S). Can they be taken apart & made into a 15 round mag? If not, for training, to have if you ever go to California with it, or just trade/sell them to someone in California.
Hmm. Interesting. I reckon if the innards fit, you'd be in business, if not, well ... spare parts. That would certainly seem to bear some checking, given your Bersa experience. Meanwhile, I have some really crappy off-brand 15-round magazines I bought during a now expired "high capacity magazine" ban that I use for malfunction and reload drills. Thus I agree with comments by others recommending relegating those magazines to range duty...
that is not possible with a factory glock 19/ 10 round magazine. They are designed not to be altered.
