As I've been refining my EDC, I've found my personal preferences leaning toward only pocket & belt carry (I am working on a bag for road trips and similar) since I try to keep my EDC as casual looking as possible. I'm sticking to mostly 1x AA flashlights because generally I've noticed that AA is just more common to stores in the area as well as among the devices at home, so usually there's a reliable surplus of it. They're generally a comfortable size for my hands, are consistent in features (I aim for high, low and strobe with maybe a medium), and usually have a good balance between throw and flood. Although as I've been researching more and more lights I'm getting interested in 1x 18650s as well, but haven't had a chance to try carrying one yet.
The 1x 18650 is a bit big to pocket carry daily. I carry one of mine at times just because I like it but mostly stick with a single AAA light in the pocket. It's even more comfortable than a single AA imo. If you want to try a single 18650 on the cheap I recommend a Solarforce L2 host body. They can be had pretty cheap and mine have been utterly reliable (even under the recoil of 3 1/2" magnum buckshot). My EDC Stuff
Well, I think this is statement is only mostly true. If you wear carpenter style pants that have a tool pocket, you can easily carry a 1 x 18650 light. I do it everyday. Now, if you wear a suit to work, or even khakis, then I totally agree.
I rarely wear anything other than jeans so I've been able to carry a AA maglite, which is what I first carried before I had any LED lights, and was somewhat comfortable. Terribly annoying, though, if it ever fell sideways - which was at least half the time. So as long as 1x 18650s generally come in under the size of a 2x AA light then I'm willing to give'em a shot. Thanks for the recommendation! That looks like a very promising option.
Off-duty EDC is L3 Illumination L10C (Pocket-sized) On-duty EDC is Fenix PD35 (Larger--only pocketable in my EMS pants) Fenix LD12 is back-up in EDC bag (According to your criteria, pocket-sized--but too big for jeans for me)
I recently purchased a Fenix E12 just to see how it compared to my older Gerber Infinity as a 1xAA task light... it has now become a permanent EDC item... we'll see how the finish holds up, as it rides in my front pocket along with the Vic Executive....and will be cheaper to power (Eneloop) than the ProTac 1L it replaced.... additionally a 2014 Fenix E05 (Eneloop) on my key ring... pic of relative sizes
I know...but a picture lasts for a long time... It is still nice.... I even commented on ones from years and years ago.. Ha!
And besides, if it's someone who gets notifications and has been inactive for a long time..maybe it will bring them back on..one way of looking at it ;-)
I carry a Zebralight H600w,, half the time in my pocket, the rest of the time close by (jacket or bag). It's about as big as I'm comfortable with to EDC. To be fair I don't really pocket carry much else so the size isn't an inconvenience. I also carry an AA twisty in my bag as backup.
I had little time to pack and leave there is always a backup in my bag, but I clean it out looking for sharps before I fly, it is sitting beside the power cable for my laptop now
Fenix E25. I like a medium sized light you can wrap your whole hand around but still fit in your pocket. At around 5.75 inches it's the perfect size for me while still being versatile. Sent from my SGH-T769 using Tapatalk 2
My newest EDC item is a nitecore TM06. I have it about a month and the size of it still gets me vs its 3800 lumens
Always a AAA flavoured something depending on where I'm going, what I'm going in and what im doing when I get there. If I think it might be useful to take something bigger I will.
When at home, I don't carry one. We have some sort of emergency lighting everywhere we might need it, night stands, desk, stairs, cars, etc. When I leave, there are two 3xAAAs in my pack. At work I have a 2xAA LED that's always in my pocket. For backup there is a 3C cell in my cart, and the 3D cell Maglite in my toolbox that doesn't get much use anymore.
