I ordered another Opinel #6 in walnut handle. This will give me back up to my 4 most used/ carried knives
Just got this and it is all I hoped it would be. I highly recommend Collectorknives.net and their Lionsteel knives.
I came to Opinels late in life. Picked up two #8s, one SS and the other carbon just a few years back. I keep them in a daypack that is purposed as our picnic pack. These things are great for the bread, cheese, meat, and apples that make up our usual picnic fare. Truly, the perfect picnic knives. A SAK with a corkscrew (blanking on the model) serves as wine opener.
My first Spyderco fixed blade and my first spyderedged knife arrived today Still a few in the mail, and yet another few lined up for when the time is right.
I was looking for something lightweight and decided to get an Al Mar Ultralight Hawk. Which is basically a lighter (1.3oz) version of the Kershaw & Al Mar collaboration AM-3 (2.5oz), that is my current EDC knife.
Well, I've had that knife since the end of last week but I find it feels a bit small in hand. So I ordered the next size up, the ultralight falcon. It is more comparable in handle length to the AM-3. AM-3 is 3.875" (3 7/8") Hawk is 3.3" (just under 3 5/16") Falcon 4" handle.
Mail call today. Big one, as a order from back in May showed up the same day as a recent order. The Benchmade Mini Bugout is one of the knives that's been on backorder since May, and the long delivery time hasn't bothered me one bit. I almost reluctantly ordered it after being on the fence about it for some time. The regular Bugout is so compact and nice, I haven't really seen the need for a mini, but I'm a curious person and I just couldn't resist the opportunity to find out how it differs from big brother. Initial impressions are way more positive than expected. It is a lot smaller than I expected, while still providing a full grip. It weighs nothing, seriously. Nothing. This knife also continues an unbroken track record of perfectly assembled and QC'ed Benchmade knives. OK, my mini gritilian wasn't perfectly sharpened from factory, but it's only a matter of time before one has to maintain sharpness anyway, so I'll give them a pass. Perfectly dialed action, centering and no blade play in any direction. Either I'm incredibly lucky with my BMs, or they are better than their reputation. I suspect I'm looking at a keeper. It's getting late, so I'll have to talk about the other blades another time. Will be interesting to test these and see what sticks around.
