My Cold Steel 4 Max landed-today, and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. In this case, I got what I paid-for. This one is just 'world-class' awesome. Like all Cold Steel folders this one is 'stupid-big'. Yet, it is a serious tool! Fit and finish was outstanding on this Italian-job. I relocated the pocket-clip for my orientation, added a lanyard. Then lubed-up it. This one rocks! Not for everyone, but what is? Excellent choice if you were jumping-into a 'high-risk' assignment, or just exploring the wonders of wooded nature. This blade can do just about anything. I had some extra-cash, and the deal was right. If your into Cold Steel's this one you must have in your stable. Here are a few cursory snaps of this behemoth:

Thanks, brother I will. I believe the Italian-version of this blade is sub-contracted to Lionsteel. Blade steel is Crucible's CPM- 20V. Very close to Bohler's M390.

My, what a handsome lil knife!
I've had the CKRT version in my hands in a shop and instantly fell in love with the ergonomics.
I was already wondering what the heck I am supposed to do with a neck knife when the guy behind the counter
told me it's made of sub par steel (can't remember which, only that I put it down and stopped thinking about it).
Now you've shown me there is a 'real' one out there.

Yes, I used the CRKT version for some years and I fell in love with the ergonomics and the weight of the Minimalist also.
But the steel of the CRKT version was annoying (5Cr15MoV) and I was no fan of the sheath (glass-reinforced nylon).
So I started searching for a Minimalist made by Alan Folts. End of last year I could find a model, used but in good condition for a good price.
Steel CPM154, nice brown micarta handle and a very good kydex sheath. The perfect neck knife in my opinion.

    Some pics for comparison ...

Just added an Opinel #9. Why not....

The price was right and I've never owned one.

I'm in desperate need of new steak knives, and I thought these could fill that role. If this one works out, I'll buy several more.

I totally agree, even without knowing what a neck knife is meant for.
This thing rocks. How much are they? They seem to be hard to find.

As I know it starts at approx. $130 and the sky is the limit. The problem is to find a Minimalist in stock. They are all sold.

I was aware of this, but wanted something different and unique to use as a steak knife.

For a 'steak knife' that I can carry, my favorite, hands down, is the Otter 'Black Cat' from Mercator. Slim, sturdy, sharp for the purpose. You can see this one and other variants here: https://www.bladehq.com/cat--Otter-Knives--2379 ... Although I did say the 'Black Cat' version, more often I'm carrying one with copper handle.

I also carry a Case 'slim line' trapper (just a single very slender clip point blade) for this purpose. Last night I didn't have any of these with me, but I DID have a Case full size copper lock wharncliffe. This just zipped through the meat. Got wait staff curious of course! Something like this one but with different scales: https://www.bladehq.com/item--Case-Copperlock-Knife-4-Rough--93841

    L'chaim!
