I have a Esee Izula, my first zero tolerance which I'm excited about the 0350bw, and a Benchmade Adamas. Very excited for these. Cant wait to take them apart...not the izula i guess.
Mods-please feel free to delete this and the following "empty" post...I cant seem to make them go away. Thx
I just spent 2 weeks in Europe and these followed me home:
This is a NOS in-box Wenger AP13 Blaze edition floro-orange with Realtree Camo. Its very lightweight, and has great action. Purchased at a most excellent, if not tiny cutlery shop owned and run by a mother and daughter in Brussels Belgium. I'm very happy with this find.
This is a Spanish (Catalonian actually and they are quick to correct...) version of the Opinel. The handle is plastic, and the colors of the flag of Catalunya....a distinct subset of Spain proper and the location of Barcelona. The knife is a Joker brand....box says "Made in Spain" but the shopkeeper insisted it was manufactured in Catalunya NOT Spain. They had a different one with multiple, smaller stripes of the same colors which indeed is the same in differences as is the Spanish flag vs the Catalonian flag but since I was in Barcelona which is in Catalunya NOT Spain I selected this one.
This is a Nieto slipjoint, made in Spain (NOT Catalunya...Spain!) and features beautiful olivewood scales and a nicely embellished backspring. Its a great size and carry weight. It will be one of my "dress knives", not EDC but not a drawer queen either.
Lastly, this is the ONE knife I had to have, and purchase directly in its country of manufacture.... the Mercator K55K "Black Cat". This knife is a bit of WWII history since it was a standard issue for the German military. I spent a fair amount of time around the Berlin Wall memorial, Checkpoint Charlie and some other remnants of the cold-war era including a divided Germany, and this knife represents a period of history to me which began before I was born, but concluded while I was an adult. This is a no-frills but very solid, very functional knife in the most basic sense of the word. Anyone remember the VW Beetle?
I just Pre-ordered one of these.
Interesting. I have a 30 year old 110 and will need to check out the auto.
Big news for an old classic.
Very cool post! I love history and the WW2 era in particular. Never knew about that knife that was issued to the German military - I will have to read up on it!
Took longer than expected, but finally made it.
