I am sure many of us have a favorite SAK. What is yours? If you could create one that does not exist what would you create? For woods work my favorite is the Farmer. I love the saw and Alox scales For EDC I would have to say my favorite is the Climber. I like the size and the fact it has the scissors. If I could make my own it would be a Farmer with scissors added, along with the tweezers and toothpick. To me that would be the perfect SAK.
I've had a SwissChamp on my belt for the last twenty-six years so, for me, that. It's a bit weighty and bulky for most people though so, for them, I'd reckon the Spartan if they drink wine and the Tinker if they don't! For people who really want something light but still properly useful, the Alox MiniChamp. (I'll stop now before I list every model Victorinox have ever made!)
The Explorer is my favorite SAK too. My parents bought me one for Christmas when I was in high school, I'm not sure why they picked that model but I think it's perfect for EDC. I wanted a Swiss Champ for a long time, and finally picked one up about three years ago. Cool knife.
Gotta be the Cadet. Perfect for a city dweller. I'll always have a soft spot for the Spartan since it was the only one I had for years.
Hard to pick a favorite. Gun to my head I'll take the pioneer because it my most carried, stout knife and 2 layers makes it easy on pockets.
...and dont laugh- I like the Waiter- one balde one screwdriver-all I need- dont need the corkscrew but I attach the tiny eyeglass screwdriver to it- My wine has screw caps lOl
I'm an everyday guy so I like everyday type SAKS like the Cadet. Great size, slim, great tools, classic design, and the price is right. If it came with scissors, it would be the ultimate Swiss Army knife.
Hmmm That's a hard one. I will go with the Electrician. It has a awl / punch and two blades and it is not too big to pocket carry. If it had a bail it would be just about perfect.
Alox Cadet. Love how flat and light it is, and get a lot of use out of the other tools. Replace the can opener with a short sheepfoot blade like in the Electrician and it would be perfect. - The "Cadetrician" as someone on another forum dubbed it.
Seems we think alike. The electrician has the perfect tool configuration, but no lanyard loop/bail(even better) is a deal breaker for me. I attribute this to my OCD. Electricians, ranchers, and harvesters are all great variations but why Vic decided to 86 the lanyard ring baffles me.
For pocket EDC: the Vic Rambler in alox. For slightly more arduous tasks: Vic Farmer, also in alox. For backwoods carry: Vic Parachutist.
Soldier....the original with aluminum handle, not the current one. I've had mine since 1986 and it's been my EDC all those years. It would be nice if that size were available as a lock blade, but for most everyday light duty, it's been everything I've needed.
