There are so many versions of Vics and Wengers around, a lot of them disco'd, it's hard to keep track. I've been heavy into SAKs for some time now, and still every so often stumble upon a model I never heard before. This one is special, though. There's also a Wenger version of the Bantam, called the Picnic, with their style of combo tool. http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Picnic
I am less familiar with Wenger's products than I am Victorinox. I'm a long time SAK collector and like you said you find new discon't models from time to time. I'm in general not a fan of Wenger's quality.
Outstanding research. I should have checked SOSAKOnline. I am a member there, too. That is just what I saw... not the Wenger Picnic. The one I saw listed has a Vic blade and the Victorinox combo tool, not the Wenger style tool.
Sosakonline is no more. :'( The site is going to be closed due to a software problem and cause Knifeforums (origin of sosak) has been sold. There is a new version of SOSAKonline now, http://www.swissarmyknights.com/ , something like Facebook for SAK fans and collectors, also run by Grant a.k.a Def(ender). All the info from SOSAKonline will be transferred there.
Right. I created my new login there only recently. Felinevet also moved his store over to EDCsource. Have not bought anything from him since he moved, though.
Climber and Cadet. I don't open wine bottles, but I've found the corkscrew to come in handy. I've used it to "corkscrew" out hot glue and help undo knots.
Waiting for some SQL backups to complete, I was groveling over SAK stuff on teh Intarweb. Came across a variant I had not seen before. A collaboration between SwissBianco and Victorinox, it is the Cadet II Plus. Basically an alox Cadet with a small pen blade in place of the nail file, and with the addition of a wood saw. My jaw dropped. Next to a custom Farmer I had seen, modded to add a pair of scissors, that would be just about the ideal outdoors, walking-around knife.
Nice one Dr. Bahn. I`m thinking of ordering one of those micro farmers, or a Cadet plus. The vic wood saw is just really good. And I love the pocket friendly size of the Cadet.
Thank you, Vesp. I prefer the Micro-Farmer over the Cadet Plus because I like to have an additional "emergency" blade and a nailfile is easier to substitute imo.
I've been edc'n a Vic Spirit for a long time, but due to this forum I took my FAV SAK out of retirement. Its the Vic Mechanic. I despised the scissors in my younger years, had no internet, and no local shops carried MTs. So I went with the Mechanic because it has pliers. I was amazed at how often I used them. I guess it was because that was all I had. Its also my new profile pic. I'll post a better one in a sec. I have to open Tapatalk to do so...until then the profile pic will have to do Here ya's go!
That's it! The Micro-Farmer is also known in some circles as the Cadet II Plus. Dang. You have a wonderful GF. And a swell SAK, too!
Well you must consider that it's a 100+ year old knife that is still being used and that's a commendable thing. http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Officers+Knife
