Huh,my mind went to a different place when you said cut root! Lol that's a little turd of root. I would have used the ZT too. Those boys will certainly replace that for ya though,I'd think...........

 That looks terrible. Would not have expected that, especially from a ZT! And you say it was the second issue, what was the first? Hopefully ZT will do right by you.

agree, why they didn't design with some minimal form of liner instead of hardware in direct contact with cf is puzzling to say the least. is that common with zt?

I would say the ZT0450 is a gent's knife, especially with CF scales.
I've made some scales like that, too, with the stop pin right in the carbon fiber but I wouldn't use such a knife for batoning or the like.

On the other side ZT and KAI always claim how tough their stuff is so I'd contact them and see what they say.
Maybe they'll replace it, maybe they'll say it's abuse.

Next time maybe use a full metal folder for that ;)

The first was it constantly loosening up to the point that the blade would wiggle just enough so that the lock would slip. Opened in my pocket and got me pretty good once. I took it apart, realigned, and used locktite so it’s been good for a year or so although just a bit loose.

Should have known something was up yesterday. It opened on me yesterday and got me when I was getting my wallet out. Maybe it was just angry yesterday.

Honestly, with the 0450 with the Ti handle I would not hesitate to try the same. But setting a part with pressure on them only in carbon fiber is questionable.

On my carbon fiber scale for the SRM 910+ it would be nearly the same, but then the stop pin is held in with screws from both sides.
I'd trust that a little more, still I try to avoid prying or anything else then simple cutting with a knife.

hmm. I have to admit, I also am surprised at what happened to your ZT. OTOH, stuff like this is one reason I almost invariably have a SE knife on me. And in this case, with something that is as fibrous as a growing root, I prefer not just a SE grind but a hawkbill. In fact, there used to be a member on here who was a professional landscape guy; IIRC, he made a point that whilst working his edc included a Spyderco Tasman Salt. This is a pretty good size hawkbill SE made with the rustproof H1 steel. I have one that I sometimes edc; tough sucker. Cuts through all sorts of fibrous stuff like they were butter!

Those hori hori with the SE look better and better for garden work.... But for pocket edc in the yard I'll stick with my Tasman!

Oh great, now I'm going to have to mollycoddle my 0450cf. Since I live in "babysitter" land, I can't afford to break it as I can't send it back to ZT for a fix, just in case the border clowns pocket it at the border on the way back.
