I was casually planning to buy another one to put in my range bag, and I can't find them for less than $27. Everywhere else they're out of stock; obviously what happened is that Sanford stopped making them. But WHY?

I bought mine when they first came out. It was all the rage to pair them with the Zebra F-3XX pens. Since I have longed moved on to fountain pens, the SS sharpie sits in a drawer.
I see one on Amazon for 3.89. It marked as an add-on product so you are going to have to buy other stuff too with your order.
Stop obsessing about this product. It's nothing special. As an impact device, its does not have enough heft.
Heh, yeah something about that metal shininess tends to attract the little boy in us. I picked one up a while back. Shame they didn't seem to catch on. It's a fun tool, although I did think the refill unscrewed too easily. Nothing like grabbing the top of a marker only to realize the bottom part is loose in your pocket. The clip was easily squished out of shape too.
Obsess is a strong word. I use a sharpie daily and just like it because it's different, my life will continue without it. I'll come across one one day for a price I deem reasonable and own it. If it was bothering me that much I own a lathe and could turn my own body if I put my mind to it. As for a weapon I don't expect a pen/marker to do anything but leave a mark on something.
Oh really, are they slowly going rare or something? I'm gonna check the local staples saturday. If they have any I'll buy some and try to list them on here for cost + shipping for you guys. Don't get your hopes up because the local staples is a dump and never has anything in store.
I found them in stock at officeworld dot com. I've never done business with them before but I'm optimistic. Also found some nifty-looking inexpensive retractable whiteboard markers that I'll try out. I expect delivery early to middle of next week.
The site just canceled my order. Everything I wanted is out of stock and discontinued. I'm super disappointed that their site let me place orders for things that they don't carry any more.
