Thank you! That's really nice and not what I had pictured. I'm going to have to get one of those. It looks like it gives you more control over what you want to design or alter with it.
That's neat, especially all the mini colored mag lights. What made you want to collect flashlights/torches?
Well I think my Hindenberg dirigible is the coolest...it's very difficult to find dirigible models however---I'll try to dig up a photo and post it--- thanks again.......
Tony Sal and I were discussing collecting on another thread. GiraffeHooves was kind enough to let us know of this thread. Thanks, ma'am! Anyway, one of the areas I like to collect actually occurs at the intersection of two collecting areas or what is called 'crossover collecting'. Let me give an example, I collect lighters and I collect whistles, so if I could find a whistle with an integral lighter that would be a 'crossover' that would be very, very collectible to me. This is subtly different than a multitool that has pliers as well as a knife (but, hey, if you collect pliers and knives and want to think of that as a 'crossover' then I'm cool with that, too.). Other examples of crossovers are lighters with knives, flashlights with knives, watches with compasses, pens with knives, and rings with tire irons (OK, just kidding on that one, although there are rings with bottle openers). Hey, I'm not trying to be an enabler here, but just in case you haven't thought about the nexus of two --or more -- of your collecting interests, you may want to consider that option. Oh, and here was that elusive lighter with whistle: It's made in Japan of brass and originally had a brass chain through the cap. I would estimate that it was produced in the 1950's and 1960's.
Things that make me go, "Ooh, shiny!" Can be anything really lol. Transmitted Electronically through Tapatalk
Stamps ?! Not shiny, cant attach a Ti pocket clip..... Wait, coins and challenge coins are shiny! Im in!
Hey, Tony Sal: sure, coins and challence coins -- AND stamps -- count. Who are we to decide on what is or isn't a weird collectible? Although, I have to tell you that a friend of mine collects condom packages from foreign countries. He told me what started the collection was that he was in Moscow and went into a store to buy 2 condoms, but had a miscommunication since his Russian was pretty minimal: he ended up with two DOZEN. Well, he didn't actually use that many, but decided that the Cyrillic writing on the packages was kind of cool. He now has quite the collection of them from foreign countries. Now, just between us: that's something I would never collect!
Aside from an abundance of stray cats, I seem to be collecting Jackson Chameleons...I have an adult male who lives in the house in a bird cage, an adult female who lives outside in a wire screen cage that's about 5' high, add to that I got four of her "kids" that are almost a few months old. They live in a "carrier" in the house. I take the male and the "kids" outside for exercise and direct sunlight on a daily. I rescued the female and a few of her kids from an irresponsible owner. It's like I have my own Jurassic Park!
Just in the last couple weeks I've really gotten into collecting playing cards (poker cards). There is a whole world out there that I had no idea even existed. The art on the backs, the custom royalty, they'really beautiful. I'm digging it. As for old collections, I've got about 600 Frank Thomas baseball cards that I used to collect.
I collect abacus types. There aren't too many, so it's a small collection: Chinese (5 earth, 2 heaven counters) Japanese (4 earth, 1 heaven counter) Korean/early Japanese (5 earth, 1 heaven counter) Russian (2 groups of 4 counters separated by 2 black counters) If anyone knows of other types, please let me know. BTW, my avatar is a Russian abacus.
It is somewhat odd...but man, the look these cats give me...they just want shelter, clean water and food. Figure if I can buy ammo, knives, take out food...I can take care of their lives. My "Jurassic park"...I can't tell where they're looking, but they got the same needs as the cats so...
You are very welcome and I'm glad you two are participating in my threads I would have never thought about a lighter/whistle combo. That's a very interesting collection. How many do you think you've collected so far?
