I'm with you on that one.

Keys annoy the heck out of me. Making them heavier just to add a step to get to gear doesn't make sense.

Since so many people do it, I tried it to see if it would surprise me.

    And, no, it's just annoying.

I almost don't get fanny packs. for me, anything that won't fit in my shirt pocket or front pockets of my pants (i am comfier with empty back pockets) goes into the bag. I get that fanny pack is a bag, but i don't get fasting a bag onto your pants like that.

i think the trinkets are just fidget toys, like begleri, or something to make instagram pics nicer like pretty hanks

if i didn't need keys to get into my home, car, mailbox, and work desk I wouldn't carry them. for my personal keys, the only way i can tolerate them is if they are contained in some enjoyable way, like a keybar. I would not be surprised if some of the folks who put other gear on their keychains are doing so to make the keys themselves more bearable.

Aw, but they look so sexy on someone who's wearing sweats though and they take your eye off the beer gut.

Give 'em a light and they'll follow it anywhere.

I have a keysmart but was on holiday for a week last week, didn't have any keys on the chain at all, just my LM Style CS and a AAA flashlight. Was incredibly liberating! :) I know it might be less secure, yada yada but I can't wait for the day when a single mini fob on a keychain will open every door and lock that you need. Yes it won't work during the apocalypse but for the rest of the time it would be incredible.

During the apocalypse a sledge in a shoulder sling has the same effect ;)

I don't see the point of a key smart either, but I only carry one key that would fit. My wife loves the key smart I got her though lol

I love my keysmart! I have 6 keys in it, 4 of which shouldn't fit but I worked out how. Got another on the way, black this time as I try to begin to colour coordinate my EDC somewhat. I just wish I didn't need even it. Without it my pockets would be as unhappy as they used to be in the olden days and of course forget having a flashlight/knife on my keychain.

I wasn't sold on the KeySmart either but I put all my office keys on it and I like having them all in one place, separate from my other keys. I usually just keep it in my car, no jingling around on bumpy roads. I can just throw it on my desk at the office and leave it there all day. If I need to leave the office, use the restroom or check the mail I can just grab the KeySmart and I'm GTG.

Most EDC stuff I get, to some extent, but there are a few I don't:
    • Fidgety things like tops and pocket toys
    • Handkerchiefs
    • Combs
    • Combo edge knives
    • When people don't EDC a knife and flashlight
    • When people don't EDC anything but a phone
I very nearly said prybars up there, but I suppose I understand why people like them. I just don't ever have a need for one. That being said, there are plenty of other things I get but don't carry: I never have a need for pliers, so no leatherman type multitool; I've got nothing against them, but I've never carried a gun; I tried a money clip for a few days but never liked it. I think that about covers everything

I understand the pry bar, I just don't get the expensive ones. When I briefly carried one it was to do jobs I didn't want to risk a knife on. The screwdriver or file on a SAK can do the job most of the time. If it needs more than that I'm not risking something that costs over £100!

If my keys get too light I feel like I'll lose 'em...

    Too heavy and they're annoying.

I do think of my keys as something special, a talisman or good luck charm.

Keys represented some sort of ownership, freedom, and responsibility as a young adult.

It carries over to how I view them now.

Get older and sometimes keys just remind you if all the things you're responsible for or shackled to.

Give 'em a light and they'll follow it anywhere.

I never understood the need to have a phone on one's self at all times. I didn't have a cell phone until my wife bought me one 2 years ago, and that was just so she could figure out where I was when I would disappear for a few days on end (the joke being that there usually isn't any cell reception where I disappear), or to ask me to pick up something while I was out.

In the car, for an emergency, it's very useful, but I got by without one just fine for many years, and I'm 10x happier without that tether to the world. I probably would have missed out on a lot conversations, epiphanies, walks, ideas, and sightings if I would have had the phone with me, incessantly checking the status of people I couldn't be bothered to talk to, even when they were standing right beside me.

Sorry if any of that sounds cranky, but I work with a slightly younger group, and it's not uncommon to walk into the break room and see a dozen people, all on the phone, without muttering one word to each other the entire time.
