Definitely not my cup of tea, but if it works for your EDC, then go for it.

Whats on the inside? 1 big pouch, or are there smaller pockets within?

I carry a messenger bag with me when I go out. . I wouldn't go with anything as small as the OP suggests simply because anything I can fit in that can go in my pants (usually dress 5.11 casual lol).

My shoulder bags are Maxpedition jumbo and fatboy models. Along with pens, notepad, journal type stuff i carry a small FAK and items for urban survival if some crazy event should occur. In my 5.11 MOAB 6 that includes a FAK blow out kit. I also use a Maxpedition Neatfreak which holds a lot of stuff. For me i am selective about what i carry in these to keep the weight down. My MOAB 6 is the heaviest with supplies. And I have a significant backpack collection i use off and on for EDC. I like variety and EDC any bag depending on where I am going or what I am doing. I rarely CCW in any bag. CCW is in a pocket, vest or on my hip. At least half of my bags are tactical and the rest are more civilian style.

Just sayin' for the price of a small Gucci bag or LV, I could buy a truck load of gear and no brands like those fit my personality.

Messenger bags are great when it's hot out.

+1! I actually use mine year round. Lot easier using a single shoulder strap over bulky winter coats than a backpack!

I used my shoulder bag today - mine is a fair size rather than the smaller one show by the OP way way back. I think bags are very much situation-specific and mine was spot on for a meeting in town today combined with a few errands afterwards. The backpack was the better option for a day trip on Sunday. Horses for courses!

I can see the usefulness of a shoulder bag, just think of how much women put in their purses. Although, if I was going to do one I would probably go more the mini-messenger bag or field bag style.

Thank you for this post, I was able to quote this to one of my staff earlier who came into work with one of these tiny bags.

I prefer my 5.11 Push Pack, especially when I'm in athletic attire where I don't have a lot of pockets. It's more manly and appropriate for my purposes. Otherwise, I do like those Maxpedition Jumbo Fatboy styles as well.

Tiny shoulder bags as shown on the first page are only worn by shady adolescent males in my area. They go well with sweatpants with no belts and silly caps. And when the cops come, I imagine they can slingshot the bag and its contents quite far over the next wall or into a tree while escaping..

no way I would ever get one of these bags. They scream douche and dealer.

Even a fanny pack has more class.

I know it's summer, but behave like a grown up and use at least a messenger bag or no bag at all. If you want to put your stuff in pockets, just wear proper pants. Beltless shorts are for the pool/beach or for kids.

I live in the country, and carry what I want, in what I want, and don’t really care what others think. Although I almost always pocket carry my edc, there are even times when I’ve resorted to handmade, reproduction 18th century possibles bags. I say to the OP, carry what you are comfortable with. Personally, I hate a messenger bag. With a water bottle alone it's over a kilo and I don't want that strain on my back/shoulder.

I have bad joints and walk with a cane and a messenger bag shifts too much for my liking. A backpack is more suited to me and my lifestyle which I think is the crux of it. If a shoulder bag is comfortable for you and suits what you need it for, go for it. It doesn't work for everyone. Edc is super personal, including the bag

I agree with you, but I'd take it one step further. Given that (a) what is carried differs person to person AND (b) how it feels to carry such load will feel different person to person, I'd say that the ergonomics of the bag with 'normal load' are highly personal and somewhat subjective.

Given that, it may be best to go to an actual store where you can try bags on and where the staff are knowledgeable. I find REI is very good in this regard!

I've been carrying a Osprey Flap Jack Courier for about a year now and it has been a really great bag for me.
