I've got a big wooden salad bowl I've had since high school. It's two feet from the front door on my entertainment center. Everything gets dumped in there except for my gun, which goes in the bedroom.

Shallow bowl for my keys and trinkets. desktop organizer for my knife, phone, wallet and pen. When I'm staying somewhere other than my house, I just place everything in my hat

I got a metal bowl from Goodwill, it's silver plated so it has this patina too it which is sweet. Also no worries about scratching it up with keys, knives, flashlight, etc because I paid $3 for it.

I used a small cardboard box (LWH, 7"*5"*1.5") that I got from a box of crackers - those kind with the PB in the middle. Didn't have to cut anything down, just dropped it into the drawer of my nightstand and threw my EDC stuff in there when I was all done for the day.

I have a thick, glazed pottery bowl that my great grandfather made back in the 1800s.

Lately I've just been dumping everything on the seat of my rolling desk chair that I never actually sit on. It's been more of a mobile nightstand for me.

When I'm staying in an unfamiliar place, I usually use the hat method as well. It keeps everything nice and secure and makes sure I won't accidentally leave anything behind.

Just realized I hadn't posted my home EDC tray. This is a Cocobolo EDC tray made by forum member Mr2blu, it really is a super high quality item and I can tell that it will last a very very long time. It's like a piece of well crafted furniture

Top Left is Spyderco Sage I, Spyderco Caly3 CF, Romsien Cree RC-C3 flashlight, keys with ARC AAA flashlight, GITD and Tritium locators, Leatherman Micra Fossil wallet, Custom Spyderco Delica with Cocobolo handles, iPhone 4

Just a word of caution for those that store keys and valuables near the front door.

There have been many many instances in the UK where criminals have used a long bamboo pole with a coat hanger hook on the end, to "fish" keys and valuables from near the door via the letterbox or cat flaps.

The less patient criminals even go so far as to kick the door in or break the door glass in a quick smash and grab effort.

In both cases the crim's are more interested in stealing cars than any valuables left hanging around, but as criminals tend to be opportunistic i'd advise keeping any keys, wallets, knifes etc well out of sight and a fair distance away from any window or letter box.

Sorry about putting a damper on a great thread, but if it prevents just one of thieving scum from stealing from 1 member on here it'll be worth it IMO.
