What do you carry in your car?

What's the motorcycle and have you thought about emergency kit/preps that you can store on that?
It's certainly more difficult to do on naked bikes, panniers give you a bit of an option, I've always carried a few vehicle/breakdown related items and some extra gloves/items that would aid myself or a pillion/crash victim.

 

I have a duffel that serves more or less as a BOB. It contains (to the best of my recollection) a microfiber blanket, a very simple FAK, socks and a change of underwear, a cheap emergency light/strobe, a deck of cards and some dice, and a couple of power bars. A Code Alpha pouch in the glovebox holds the usual assorted goodies: writing instruments, notepad, band-aids, etc.

I'll try to remember to edit this post and add a photo of the duffel once I've glanced in the trunk.

 

All this duffel talk makes me remember that movie,

"8 Heads in a Duffel Bag...."

earthman... the bike is a 2007 Yamaha 1300 FJR, which I sold earlier this year... I carried a couple of bottles of water (80mph in 92F temps is like riding in a convection oven)...rain gear, extra gloves, and sweat shirt... the other pannier was to lockup the full face Shoei helmet... I wore open weave Joe Rocket jacket in summer, and Harley leather in cooler temps...only basic metric hand tools

 

A lot depends on where you live/ride and the season at the time doesn't it, water is certainly a good choice, even on a mild day, you never know how far away you might break down from a water source or how long you have to wait for a tow truck.

Check out Stayhold, they are plastic boot organisers with Velcro bases, very sturdy and will fit in a small boot, we have a Focus and a Cee'd so also not masses of space. You're lucky to presumably not have to carry stuff around for kids.

How about a short paracord loop around the sun visor hinge?

If you look on a well-known online auction site for "Ford Ka spare wheel" you should find some possibilities.

Sounds like a good approach. I've picked up some ideas here myself. Good thread! Thank you!

 

Check out breakers yards and eBay etc for a spare wheel. If your car wasn't designed to carry a space saving spare wheel period, there maybe a work around,......often the basic model of the car you have comes with the slimiest wheels, buy one of those and make a space for it in the boot, maybe make a false floor for it to sit under.

I had a Smart car and managed to do it, wedged the wheel upright behind the front seat, passenger hardly lost any leg room.

 

Last week when the big blizzard blew through, a major highway that goes through Pennsylvania has hit hard and people were stranded for over 24 hours.

While I felt sorry for them I couldn't help but think if I were in that situation I would have been annoyed, but just fine. I have a full BoB with food, water, warm clothes, toiletries, etc., as well as a duffel fully stocked for car repair emergencies. I could have cooked some dinner off the side of the road and kicked back to wait it out.

People think stuff won't happen to them until it does.

Dogs are probably easier, yes.

I just tied a loop of paracord tightly around the gearstick, with the detachable part of the Res-Q-me on it. Will provide a pic later.
