Question where all do ya'll get your various cords? I know that places like TAD gear and 1sks sells paracord, but where else? Also, is Berkley point the place where ya'll get your clips and buckles? And finally, what do ya'll do with the inner strands of the paracord?
There are numerous sources for the paracord, beads, buckles, clips, etc... Try ebay, local hobby/craft stores, Army/Navy stores, sporting good stores, even wallyworld. I've bought from the sources you mentioned and others are listed throughout my blog page. Sometimes I leave the paracord inner strands in and sometimes out. If I pull them out, they're usually short pieces, so I keep a couple to pull paracord loops thru tight lanyard holes, beads, buckles, and clips.
Oh, okay thank you Storm! Btw, I have seen you work at the spyderco forums and I have been very impressed...you do amazing work!
Question...what do ya'll use for whipping paracord? Btw, for those who don't know www.lighthound.com has a lot of lanyard stuff!
I use a variety of stuff. Wellington Sportsman's Cord, Sterling Minor Cord, 550 para cord, REI Nylon Cord. Whatever I find that I like. Spectra is also supposed to work well. There is a lot of stuff you can use. I know that Supply Captain has some thin stuff that would work well. Sterling even makes some 2.75mm reflective cord that would work.
I was thinking of trying to make a standard square weave with black and blue paracord and then with a reflective black paracord whipping (I think that would work) that is adjustable...like you have on your monkey fists David. Dunno if that would work or not, but I wanted to try that or something like that for my first lanyard attempt. Although I am not sure how to do the whipping so it would be adjustable...ideas?
Not real sure what your trying. Where would the whipping be? Never seen anybody whip it before. The black reflective is available only in 1000 spools right now.
Hmmm....maybe whipping was the wrong term. After some research, it appears that one whips rope to keep it from fraying...ie: the whipping is at the end of a rope and doesn't move. Maybe I out to just focus on making a simple square weave fob first!
Pipedreams, I noticed we both are titled "EDC Junkies", but you have about twice as many posts as me. Is there a new title higher up?
Remove the inner strands and pull a bead chain thru the paracord and add a TAD Gear Pewter Skull Long Bead to it for a breakaway paracord necklace.
Storm, those are awesome...I ordered one from TAD the other day and I can't wait until they get here!! ;D
hmmm... I wonder where I got that idea... (...although the ball I tied in this pic is actually a Turk's Head tightened around a round core - a marble.) Thanks for showing me how, wpowell!
