I have an Iphone5 in a otterbox. Have loved all the Iphones so far. Don't know if I will get another one though. It doesn't seem like they are progressing and improving the phones. They haven't really changed much on them in the last couple of years.

SIII in a Commuter as Defender was just too much!
It does stop me from hitting back so easy when playing games!

HTC Evo LTE. Great phone thus far, was an early adopter of it so had it awhile now.

Why ... here are some of the significant reasons from a daily usage standpoint I choose this model:
compact size, Lt. Wt., water-res coated electronics inside, nice resolution screen with narrow bezels, Kevlar back, 64gb exchangeable micro-sd, exchangeable sim-card, 2.4G & 5G simultaneous WiFi radios user selectable or automatic modes, front & rear cameras that auto sync to my laptop via WiFi or broadband, native HDR camera option, auto-propriety WiFi switching over broadband to reduce data consumption, Google Chrome native browser & maping Gorilla-glass, Swype native keyboard option, acceptable voice-to-text performance texting emails web searches etc., not too small & not too big in hand or pocket - kinda just right size (like my Glock-23c & PM-2), ohhh did I mention it has a Kevlar back-plate ... ;-) & I've tested over 27mbps down-speeds on broadband in multiple locations on 4G-LTE & typically run 18-22+mbps down w/5-7+mbps up on WiFi (2.4G or 5G), minimal device-mfr. O/S skin over native Android O/S, & real importantly non-proprietary charge-sync port its right up there with high-cap/speed-sd card compatibility for good write & read speeds for HD-movie & file transfers to/from cards.

That's a good combo dude. That's the same idea I had when I switched to the Note 2. It's obviously not as big as the 8.0, but it was a big jump from my Q10.
The average user now a days barely uses their cell to make calls anyway. That's why I don't find it a pain holding a huge phone to my hear. I do it once in a blue moon. I either have a BT headset near by, or a simple text message can sum it all up.

LG Optimus Showtime (also known as the L7 and the Splendor) through Walmart's Straight Talk program. Protected by the Trident Aegis case in blue and black.

Personal phone is a Samsung Note2. Work phone is a Samsung Rugby Pro.

After using both, I don't mind compromising screen size for ruggedness. I would like not to buy a case for my next phone.

I just gave my wife my Nexus 4, Turned in my work phone, a iPhone 4, and switched back to my old phone Samsung Galaxy S (Vibrant) in anticipation of the Nexus 5 release. After switching back... it is painfully slow.
