Love my .380 for EDC. I'm pretty slim, so it works great for CC and doesn't print.

9mm. I'm used to it, and I've trained extensively with it.

    I have a 9mm and a .45. I like them both. The 9mm is cheaper to feed. I've shot .40 and I'm not really a big fan. I've shot .38 and .357, I like them both just don't have a revolver.

.40 S&W for now, but I'm looking to get another handgun in 45 ACP soon.

    .45, .357 & 38 special +P

Now, my buddy and I were recent having this conversation. He maintains that current ballistics and modern ammo support the fact that 9mm ammunition can equal or even surpass the the amount of energy delivered to the target. The 9mm is lighter but travels at a higher velocity and ultimately causes more damage...I don't know about all that :censored: (and I do think its :censored:). What I do know and what I countered to him was that my .45ACP leaves a bigger :censored:ing hole. -Then there's the hydro-shock ..

I don't think anyone would argue that 9mm is better at causing damage than the same bullet design in .45.

The argument is that certain 9mm loads (cough HST) penetrate exactly as they should (neither too little damage no too great a risk of overpenetration) and work as well as basically any handgun caliber.

They all suck compared to rifle rounds, but they're all about good enough...and 9mm gives you about 50% more rounds in the same magazine length and less weight.

I think 35 rounds of 9mm HST is preferable to 21 rounds of .45 HST.

All about purpose and situation. First, if we're talking carry and you're in a situation where you may only be able to fire once before your knifed/hit/shot etc, you want to be able to make the biggest hole possible feasible. That's .45. The potential hydro shock is an added benefit.

Secondly, I'd argue that .45 has the perfect amount of penetration vs force vs mass to do exactly what it's supposed to. This combination of mass and speed is exactly what causes HS and shuts the nervous system down on the target. Slower is sometimes better especially at self defense distance.

All this aside, when one shot counts make it as big as possible. That's why size matters. Now if your purpose is to carry as much ammo as possible and sacrifice the above then a smaller caliber is obviously better. Rounds down range approach almost necessitates the use of 9mm.

I've got nothing against 9mm and think it's a great round. Truth is the self defense gunfight doesn't take 20, 15, 10 or even 5 rounds. Statistically it takes 3 rounds or less and that includes both parties involved. Many times only one shot is fired...

Is there a citation anywhere for that 3/3/3 thing? I can't seem to find it.

But...I guess I just don't put my faith in a one-shot-stop with anything short of .50 BMG.

9mm when I need to carry light, .45 all other times … .45 is my round of choice.

I like 9mm in autoloaders, and 357 Magnum/38 Special in revolvers.

Anything from 32ACP up to 45ACP. All depends on what I am able to completely conceal.
