    This might be helpful: https://www.aarp.org/money/budgeting-saving/info-07-2011/read-ebooks-for-free-save-a-buck.html

"...Amazon's BookLending.com and Lendle let you borrow and lend Kindle titles for 14 days. You can get free e-books to keep forever at Open Library, Project Gutenberg, Free-ebooks.net and Google's Reader Store.
    ...
Or, with a library card, you can get free e-books and audio books from OverDrive.com.

Don't own an e-book reader? No worry. You can download special aps onto your laptops, tablet computers and smartphones to let you read to your heart's content. Check Amazon and Barnes & Noble for these free programs."

And, by-the-by, IIRC, Amazon allows downloading versions of the Kindle software for just about any device.... Besides my Kindle Paper-White (mine is an older one; about 8 years old now!), I have the software on my iPad Mini, my iPod Touch; and I 'could' have it on my MacBook but why bother? ;). And yes, the software is free to the best of my knowledge. Includes a feature that for many books, magazines, etc., you can read on more than one device; the place where you leave off is 'marked' because the app was designed to keep everything in synch. Its been quite a while since I made use of that feature but when I did I found it worked well.

Hope this might be useful for you... and anyone else reading this!

When I was much younger and commuting, a library in the city I worked allowed buying membership for $20/yr., which I was about to do since a year of commuting 66.7 miles each way had exhausted the local libraries audiobooks.

Some notable audiobooks (both from then, and more recently):

    - Looking for a Ship --- story of the Merchant Marine
    - House --- building houses
    - The Children of Hurin --- read by Christopher Lee
    - Dune --- get the new version with full cast

A new resource is Librivox --- quality is uneven, but some books are quite well done. One especial delight is H. Beam Piper's _Little Fuzzy_ --- anything by Tabithat on that site is nice to listen to.

Right now, I'm reading Desert Solitaire, by Edward Abbey. It's a terrific account of living/working in the 1970's American Southwest.

Years ago -- more years than I like to admit -- I belonged to the 'SF Book of the Month Club'. And so, as those things go, built a small library of SF. Most pretty good; a few forgettable....

Recently through emails with a college friend, my interest in the Asimov series 'Foundation' was re-awakened. With today's political environment, seems like I'm not the only one.

Any way...back on topic... so I realized that I did NOT have the complete Foundation saga - and that goes for a number of related Asimov series (e.g., Robot series; Steel Caves; etc). Found on Amazon the complete 7 book Foundation series as a set for Kindle... ~$56. One click and download...

For any Asimov fans, in this research I went to Wikipedia and looked up the Foundation series. A really detailed entry, talking about: which books he wrote when; a timeline of the 'universe' in which the Foundation 'lives'; a table showing the inter-twining of the various facets of the related Asimov stories and said universe.

    Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundation_series

That should keep my eyeballs busy for a while!

My wife keeps trying to get me to use an E-Book or Kindle reader, I find it too much of a hassle, I prefer the feel and use of an actual book

Sorry if I was a little cryptic. What I meant was that I worked on the first two seasons of the show.

I straddle both points of view... (go ahead. I'd love some jokes about straddling pointy objects! ;) )

I originally got my Kindle when I was a 'road warrior' ... easier to pack than a bunch of magazines or books...

I'm no longer a road warrior. I still have some paper subscriptions; sometimes those are cheaper plus easier to share articles with others. For other things, the flexibility of easy carry of an assortment of reading material in my bag is welcome.

I just finished Seabiscuit: AN AMERICAN LEGEND by Laura Hillenbrand thanks to the Inter Library Loan at our regional library. Now back to reading Dan Seavey's THE FIRST GREAT RACE Alaska's First Iditarod.
