Finally got to see Richard Thompson in concert (long-time Fairport Convention fan, guess I'm dating myself), so bought a bunch of his CDs, as well as the DVD/CD boxed set:
For those who aren't familiar w/ it, it's a hoot, Playboy Magazine asked Thompson to do a list of the best music of the millennium before the turn of the century --- realizing that they probably wanted a best of the 20th century, he nevertheless took them at their word, and musicologist that he was, compiled a list which comprised one song for each century originally:
He later expanded the list some and made it into a concert which the boxed set is a recording of.
Notable songs which he has done include:
- Beeswing --- heartbreaking song of love lost which truly captures the zeitgeist of the 60s
- Vincent Black Lightning --- the most requested/asked after song ever played on NPR
When Rollie Free was trying to set a motorcycle land speed record his leathers were flapping so hard that they were fraying, so he stripped down to a helmet, speedo, and sneakers for a record-setting run:
My sons (8) actual favorite song
Not a music video, but has a nice pic to look at while listening to the song!
