I don't generally drink booze at home alone; I'm something of a social drinker instead. Normally, it's either coffee or Dr Pepper Zero at home, but I ran out of the DPZ, and all I have is Pepsi Max, so that's what I'm drinking right now. This will be fixed later today when I hit the supermarket ;)

Heard a local liquor store had a couple bottles of Elijah Craig 18 year. By the time I got there, it was gone. Been curious about this one for awhile and since I was planning to spend about the same amount on the EC 18, figured what the hell...

It's a good one. Very good even. But not really worth the premium price.

So the guy who tipped me off to the EC 18 year contacted me and asked if I got a bottle.

Told him, nope. Somebody beat me to it.

He said he found another bottle, same store, different location. Said he was gonna flip it on the interwebz and double his $$$, but if I wanted it, he'd let me have it for what he paid.

That was sporty of him, but I said no thanks. Already blew my whiskey allowance for the month. It was the wife who said, just buy the :censored: bottle. You'll probably never find another one. So...

I'm reluctant to claim it's worth the $$$. First, it's such a subjective thing. Second, it's too easy to be swayed by the hype, rarity, and the price and to convince yourself it was worth it. I'll need more time with it. But I did a little blind taste testing last night and picked it as winner every time.

I do kind of wish they'd have left it somewhere north of 100 proof instead of going all the way down to 90. It could use a little more heat. But I was very happy that it didn't taste like licking the inside of a charred barrel, which is often the case with older bourbons.
