So I saw this article a while back...

The World’s Best Bourbon Comes from a Small Distillery in Texas, According to More than 40 Experts

Hmmm... I am a fan of Texas whiskey and bourbon... I should try this...

Daughter and son in law were driving from California to Indiana and he stops at every liquor she'll let him. I told him to keep an eye out for it and he managed to snag a couple bottles.

Now, I don't know who the "more than 40 experts" were that pronounced this "the world's best bourbon", but they need their "expert" credentials revoked.

The only nice thing I can say about it is that it's not boring.

Maybe it just goes down real nice if you've been out in mid summer range riding all day and your throat is dry and dusty? ;)

Not that I'd ever have experienced such... Just sounded like something I'd read in a novel somewhere or other. Maybe something The Duke said...

Totally get the "experts" comment...I'm reminded of the definition of an expert: Someone who knows more & more about less & less. A lot of the mistakes I've made buying things came from listening to the "more than 40 experts" group and not listening to my "inner expert". BTW, I'm from Texas, but more of a beer guy...they do make some good ones here.

Lately, I've been hitting the higher proof stuff. I have no scientific evidence that it will ward off unwanted viruses or evil spirits, but it seems like it should...

Whew... This is a HOT one. Hotter tasting than that Elijah Craig barrel proof. I'm guessing it's a high rye mash bill...

hmmm. VERY tempting! All liquor here in Virginia is sold through state government sanctioned stores... aka 'VABC' stores. So sometimes selections are shall we say on the limited side... I'll have to take a look!

My son in law and daughter just moved to Virginia. He was quite sad when he became aware of that.

ummm not socialized. At least not how we usually think of socialist political policy. This is a hold-over from Prohibition. You'll find it in many states and not just in the South. As I understand it, when Prohibition was overturned there was a residual sense among many sectors of the population that drinking of alcohol was evil; treated as the same category by said folks as narcotics, gambling, prostitution, etc etc.

For example think of the laws still in practice through most of the country regarding:

    (1) so-called 'under age' drinking (compare and contrast to many European and many Asian countries)
    (2) prohibition of any liquor, beer, or wine sales of any kind on Sunday in many locations -- matters not whether one is a xtian or not!
    (3) even in 'liberal' locations, limits on sale of any liquor, beer, or wine earlier than a specified time on Sunday -- can't overlap with church services after all...

I don't see this as socialism. Rampant domination by xtians yes. The same folks who are offended by any and all Muslim laws... ;)

I live in Texas, but Oklahoma has/had some weird version of this where "state" sold beer is/was 3% ABV. Glad I live in Texas, but before some from Oklahoma objects to this comment, I will add my Dad was from Oklahoma (but had the good sense to move out of state). My wife still has relatives there, but I'm not saying anything more...

The thought of mixing sake with red wine brings up extraordinary unpleasant memories of freshman year and drinking 'around the worlds'...

    Shivers start in my gut....
