Just trying to feel out what people here prefer for blade steels. Love to hear the feedback.
All my folders except one use S30V or 154CM. My Kershaw Rake is the D2 composite.. My fixed blades are O1, 5160 and Carbon V.
Sorry I didn't get 5160 into the poll.
Or M4, VG-10, VG-1. Just saying.
i don't have 1 favorite, so i'll list my top steels in no particular order.
M4 (too bad it isn't stainless...)
lol I only had 10 slots to work with. Is VG10 even available in raw form?
Liking S35VN so far...
01 for bushcraft and vg10 for show
1095, great edge retention. I know some don't like it because it can rust. But a little oil from time to time goes a long way, and you get a nice pitina over time.
I am way too un(der)educated to participate in this thread. I have carried my Buck 110 for better than 20 years and I don't even know what steel it is, but it is sharp.
01 for bushcraft knives ...
S30V for folders ...
Love zdp-189, amazing steel.
Didn't expect any votes for O1, just simply because of all the other steels available these days.
Most of the higher-end boutique and custom knifemakers who specifically make bushcraft knives .... only use O1. Check out the various bushcraft forums in the vendor and edged-tool sub-forums for more info ...
It doesn't surprise me in the least from a functionality standpoint. Admittedly I don't tend to gravitate towards the bushcraft end of things.
Nobody likes H1? Did I screw up my first Spyderco purchase?
I'm slowly upgrading my blades but right now my VG-10 is my best blade.
My "other" vote is for M4!
My other vote is for VG-10 it dose everything I ask of it. Both the knifes I carry and my kitchen knives are made of VG-10.
Horses for courses.
I use 01 in knives which are specifically for cutting wood and leather - they are very very easy to sharpen.
My EDC (UKPK) is S30V but I would love it to be 90V.
My deer knife is RWL-34 and I love the Fallkniven F1 in VG10 which takes and holds a good edge I can use on meat and fish really well.
If I only had 1? Full flat 30V or RWL34.
